Montreal Pontiac dealers in 1963

An ad a friend sent me from the Montreal Gazette.  Maybe my dad saw this add, he bought a new 1963 Parisienne convertible and he drove me home from the hospital in it when i was born.  He bought it at Omar Barre which was near his office.  Most of these dealers were still around in the 80's but most disappeared by 2000.  Interesting they mention the American models like the Grand Prix and even the Tempest.  By the numbers of models they are talking about I'd assume they are counting both the American and Canadian models.

Canadian Pontiacs were among the annual best sellers back in those days.

Its very interesting to see that they carried both domestic & U.S. Pontiacs. Buyer preference (budget constraints) meant that U.S. Pontiacs were rare in Canada back at that time. Certain U.S. cars like the Tempest were almost never seen. Back in the 1960s there was a 1962 Olds F85 in my neigborhood. I never saw another until 1977 when a car enthusiast in town imported a creampuff of a '62 Cutlass. I have a friend that owns another 62 Cutlass that was sold new in Kitchener to the wife of the Seagrams distillery owner. Today that car is a nice rod with a 5-speed manual, 4-wheel disk brakes, plus a healthy aluminum 215 V8 having a chambered exhaust system with a healthy crackle to it.

Mr. Guilfoyle our neighbour owned a few low rise apartments houses in east end Toronto so he was what I considered a wealthy neighbour on our street. He gave me an opportunity to see my very first Bonneville in person in 1969 when he brought home this incredible 1970 gold 4dr. hardtop with brown vinyl roof and interior and a throbbing 455 under the hood. He had purchased it at Hogans on the Danforth in Toronto. I fell in love with that car and vowed to myself to one day own a Bonneville, which I did once I was awarded my first company car in 1992 albeit a nice and fairly expensive car at $31,000 1992 dollars but not quite the same as a 1970. Equally impressive was his tall blonde daughter, a few years older than I, nonetheless with pleasing curves and beauty as well.

My 58 Parisienne was sold new in March 1958 by Omer Barre in Verdun PQ.  The original owners name was a Mr and Mrs Gordon McArthur.. Believe the dealership closed down in the late eighties.  Bob.
