66 Grande Parisienne 4 dr on kijiji Toronto

very limited info

no pictures and no price

but could it be a bargoon as he doesn't appear to know much about it?

Heck doesn't even know how to spell Parisian

say engine is seized

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/city-of-toronto/1966-pontiac-parisian-mint-condition/1399148726?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

Question...if it is a Grande Parisienne 4 door would it have to be a 4 door hardtop?

Correct, it would have to be a hardtop.

Maybe it's a 427 car............... (you never know!)

I certainly don't want to be considered a non serious inquiry but this car is only 15 minutes by highway from me. I'd like to see what a "mint" car with no engine looks like.

Hmmm... I don't know how the seller would be able to gauge whether you were serious or not, given that they don't give any price or photos.  It's that information upon which somebody determines whether they were serious or not.

I'd be seriously interested if it were priced reasonably and the engine hadn't been pulled.  The pulled engine makes shipping a real pain, rather than if it had just been left intact and not running.

Might be a real diamond in the rough as long as they don't want a million dollars for it.  On the other hand it could be a real dog as everybody has a different idea of "mint".  Being indoors all its life is encouraging, but if it were driven through the winters with no undercoating and parked in a heated garage every night it could be a rot box.

Go ahead, Ray, take a look, take photos... let us know what's there.  I'm really curious.  Could be a great buy for somebody who's set up...

I agree. I hope it can be checked out.  These are rather elegant and fairly rare cars with about 1200 made according to the only numbers I ever heard.

Unfortunately the only ones I have encountered either on this forum or in the wild (so to speak) have been used as parts donors for more "sporty" cars.

I don't recall ever seeing one that was roadworthy.

If my wife wasn't watching me I'd be interested.

They definitely are rarely seen. Here's one that was for sale a while back, thought it looked nice black on black.

Has now posted a picture of the front of another car for what he says is to get attention. Listing says his car is yellow.
Still no price

Odd that they say they will send photos of the actual car to "serious" buyers, but won't post pics of the actual car in the ad??? Something seems a little fishy there... Maybe they are selling a car they aren't supposed to sell and they don't want to tip anybody off ...or ???

Its interesting that the text now refers to the number built as 1200.  I wonder where he got that info except from here.

It reads as if it was translated with a program from another language which would explain the very awkward phrasing. You'd think he'd take the time to get the correct spelling off the car's emblems at least, if he actually had it.

The whole thing seems a bit fishy for sure.

In my mind I smell a scam brewing.  Has anyone heard of the large scam last year in USA that netted the scammers over a million bucks?  I can post the link if anyone is interested.  No I am not one of the victims but really feel for the honest folks who lost some big bucks on Classic Vehicles they thought they were purchasing only to find out the did not exist.  Bob.

Don't think this is a big time scam (if it is a scam)  if this guy is trying to hide his identity to scam.

In the ad he posts his name and has another ad where he is selling tires, and has his

phone number listed. If it's a scam,he's not hiding much about himself.

looks to be Lebanese and a renovator living in North York.

I don't need, and can't fit another big car, but this could be a fantastic find if true (if it has a reasonable price). Sounds like its worth the trouble to check it out. If I had nothing, I'd certainly be on it.

Please someone, if possible, move and report on this mystery body...

Good bit of research!   That would explain quite a bit. Maybe I'm getting a bit paranoid.
Sure would be a nice find!

If it's a scam it's sure not in the parameters of a normal scammer. They usually pick a car that really draws attention, like Camaro, Chevelle etc, not a big Pontiac.

I vote legitimate but just not a great job marketing the car.

The dynamic still seems a little strange, but I agree somebody should take a look at it.

Would be nice if a board member could save it.

Like I said,, I can be on this car in less than 15 minutes but the seller is a arrogant self absorbed clown . He doesn't want anyone to waste his time , likewise, I'm not wasting my time with the clown.

I was considering this car, but there was very little information given in the ad so figured it was worthwhile to ask.  In the end, the logistics were not going to work out for me, without a shop to keep it while it's being put back together.  I thought I'd post the information that I got in case somebody on the board is interested.  In the end, I didn't get much more than was posted in the ad, but I did get a couple of small pics.

Price is $8000, engine was seized and removed.  Transmission is said to be good.

No air conditioning, no power windows.

Apparently no rust and untouched (except taking the engine out).  Says he has all documentation for it from dealer (Oshawa).

Seems like it would be a worthwhile car to save, but would need an in-person inspection.

Imho $8000 is high with a questionable motor, unless it is like new rust and upholstery wise. It is intriguing.

Would require a very close inspection. Why did engine seize? Abuse, poor storage, lack of knowledge? Any of these lead to questions in the other areas.
Fixing/replacing the engine puts the final on the road price well over 10 grand.

The seller either doesn't want to or know how to sell a car. Busy or not, get your act together man.

From the teaser pics the car looks like it might be something special, as in solid & untouched. If the engine seized, maybe it was from a bonehead move, or a blown head gasket. Perhaps it was from short, infrequent trips followed by years of sitting. Or maybe they warmed it up like my friend's neighbor did.

----------------

Funny story, a friend's next door neighbor was the town gossip. She owned a mint looking 1967 Plymouth Valiant Signet 4-door with a slant six. Not a car person. On any cold morning and especially on very cold mornings when she started the car to warm it up, it was gut-wrenching. First there was the sound of the Chrysler starter bendix, followed by a slant six that was immediately taken to 3000~4000 rpm and left there in Park for 2 minutes. Maybe buzzed up as high as it would go occasionally, depending on how impatient Ida's foot was. We were all waiting for the rods to come through the side of the block. Finally when she gave up her license she offered the car to my friend or his brother. No thanks, they heard how it was abused through shear ignorance.

Come to think of it, that damn slant six held together through that, maybe a freshening, some headers & Mopar's Hyper-Pack... If it survived Ida's engine-blow tactics, maybe it was born to run.

I saw an Aussie hemi slant 6 at a show here. Had a neighbor with a mid 60s dodge, never drove it much but he used to fill it with oil until it came out the dipstick tube.
50/50 chance the motor could be saved in this 66?

I mentioned to the seller that the pics were too small to get a good idea of the condition of the car, but he didn't respond to that comment.

Overall, his emails were friendly and respectful, seemed like a straight forward character, but I would guess that English is his second language.  As mentioned he is also trying to sell a Camaro with a 4-speed and from his ad it sounds like he is trying to sell one to finance fixing the other.

The $8K price seemed a little steep considering the engine issue, but probably is reasonable if the car is actually a mint creampuff that only needs an engine rebuild to make it right again.  But, only a personal inspection would reveal that for sure.

For me, I thought about trying to ship it and the engine down here, if all was perfect with the car otherwise, but at the end of the day I don't have a shop to keep it in and to rebuild the engine, so I would have to pay somebody to use their shop, etc. etc.  There are other cars out there that I would like just as much that don't have this baggage attached to it (like that nice white '67 GP in BC, for example, if it didn't have $3000 of shipping costs to get it here).  It's already at the upper end of my budget as it is, so I decided to pass.  I will hold off until the right car at the right price comes around.  I've seen a few 'right ones' over the past couple of summers, so I'm not rushing into anything.

Also, I noticed that the seller has added these same pics to the ad now, so maybe it will draw some attention.  Hopefully it will be bought by somebody who can give it the care that it appears to deserve.

Don, that Aussie Hemi 6 was probably owned by my friend, the guy who had the swap meet in Dartmouth that you attended.  Though I haven't been able to keep track of which cars he still has (his collection is always fluctuating), he used to have an Aussie Charger and a Chrysler ute, both with Hemi 6s.  Definitely oddball cars, but quite cool nonetheless.

I can attest to the durability of the mopar slant six.  Have owned many of them over the years and they would definitely withstand lots of abuse.  The oil filling reminds me of a story from a friend who worked in a gas station back in the 1980s.  A customer came in asking the pump jock (back when we still had full-service stations) to top up their oil.  It was a new guy who was not so experienced with cars, so after 8 or 9 litres one of the guys asked him what he was doing to which he responded "just topping up the oil, but I can't see it when I look in the fill hole yet"...

My Dad owned a '73 Dart and a '76 Dodge Aspen with "the leaning towers of power" ... they were great engines.
