On this day......November 22,1963.....My dad ordered his new 64 Parisienne....

I was 10 years old...in grade 5......and they sent us home from school.....after announcing that the President of the US was shot...and killed.

As I recall....we picked it up about mid-Dec......

It was an Ermine White Sports Sedan (4dr ht)...with aqua interior...283,glide...power steering and brakes..

The trade in was a 58 Strato-chief 4dr sedan...which my uncle ended up buying...

The 64 was a great car.....and pretty sporty....for my conservative parents...and one of the cars I learned to pull wrenches on....

I took custody of it...in 1978.....and turned it loose.....in 1984.......Had some rust issues starting....and the miles were getting up there...

Told myself I'd get a 64 Parisienne hardtop...or convert......which I did in 2003....

That's MY story......for today...

Our friends across the lake from us at our summer cottage got married that day. She was putting on her wedding dress when someone came in to the room to tell her the president had been murdered.

I had just turned 6. I remember the look on my parents faces that day though...

I was still a little too young to understand...

Dec63.jpg

Picture is circa December '63.

Dad used to have a '66 Biscayne. One day he had to leave it overnight for service & they gave him a loaner. It was a '64 Laurentian, black with red interior. I congratulated dad for getting the Pontiac (it was a '64 & this was in '68). He corrected me and said it was just a loaner. Those boomerang tail lights made an early impression on me. Later after we moved, a neighbor's daughter-in-law used to visit in her '64 Parisienne Custom Sport convertible (Silver Blue & MINT). I always hoped that one day I would own that car. After the owner died in late '82 I saw the car for sale in Ancaster near the border with Whitney in Hamilton in '83. I couldn't come up with enough on the spot and the car was sold. It would be sad but almost expected that the old girl went through a series of owners that kicked the can down the road rather than dealing with any stuff (ever heard the term "third hand Chevy"?)

Remember November 22, 1963 very vividly. Sitting in a high school classroom when the Principle came on the PA system with the announcement.
