power glides


ok  theres alot of knowledge and experienced fellows  here  question ?   283 / 327  with power glides are they all the same torque converters used ?as in stalls ect  ?  250 hp/300hp ect ?  any thoughts ?  Thanks guys !

I don't think so. They are often different boxes too, as in ratios. For example, from the 1967 full size Engineering Technical specs:

283 - 1530rpm stall and 1.82:1 low and reverse.
327 - 1680rpm stall and 1.72:1 low and reverse.

Varying number of clutches used too.

Some of the stall will be accounted for by more torque from the 327 though.

Thank you HK1837 I knew someone could help..I have a glide that came with my 64 327, they were in a garage for over 20 yrs so dont know how well or if trany is any good..also have a glide on the 67 283 thats in the car now and works great..so now I would like to put the 327 glide in the car with the redone 327 ..wasnt going too if the glides were the same..I will put new front and back seals in and new pan gasket and fluid and hope for the best..I am a little to old to be changing tranys once its in the car..so I will cross my fingers all works out ..Thanks again !

Take it to a transmission shop before you put it in. Seals especially rubber seals get hard. They will tell you quickly if it is OK or not. If the box is OK and just needs a few seals then it won't cost much and you'll get it back with a new filter and pan gasket plus converter, yoke, selector shaft, speedo drive and filler tube seals. Plus if it hasn't remained sealed bugs love auto transmission fluid.
