67 Olds Delmont 88 4dr ht on craigslist BC

1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 - $6999

A mint and rare 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 for sale. It has the big 425 engine and is running perfectly. Everything on this car is original and stock. Had recent brake work done and a tune up. This is a local car with absolutely no rust. Interior is also mint and could easily be collector plated. The odometer reads 13,000 miles but I'm sure it's flipped over once. You won't find a better car from the era for this price. Open to offers. Take it for a test drive, you won't be disappointed!

What a great way for someone to get into the hobby. Roll the windows down, turn key and hit the country.

I really like this. It's been for sale for ages upon ages. I think price dropped. Closing eyes, avoiding calling.

This is why I'm looking at cars on the other side of the country - it removes the temptation!  (that, and we don't have stuff like this in great abundance out east...) biggrin

That thing is a real beauty in fantastic shape! Back in 87/88 I walked past daily a 4-door sedan with the window frames that otherwise was the same Delmont 88 425 right down to the colour,  425 & other details. Those big Oldsmobiles back then were big solid barges that drove with one finger. Lots of power.

Also regularly parked beside it in the ground level parking garage was a '69 Strato Chief hardtop coupe with a 350 that suffered some rust damage. The owner then took a sheet of steel, riveted it outside the damage, crudely bent it into the wheel well, then finished the whole car off with a brush paint job of exterior latex in chocolate brown. He painted everything including nameplates, I mean everything but the bumpers (should have gone for the Endura look biggrin  ) & the glass.

I should add that if this car or that '67 Grande Parisienne (the white one with black top and red interior) were for sale at those prices in my neighborhood, there's a strong chance that one of them would come home with me.  The $3000 cross-country shipping cost plus the whole concept of purchasing a car that I've never driven puts these out of reach for me, but man it would be tempting.

I really like the aqua in-and-out colour scheme that was popular in the sixties - it's always been one of my favourite combos.  Original and unmolested checks another box.  Yup, good thing it's in BC... wink

What a sweet mint cream puff of a car, do they come any more well preserved than this. I am not a big fan of the styling but still a real sweet car.

Neat article. I can also add that the B07 Pursuit Delmont 88 was improved for '68 with a 400-horse 455, but the CHP didn't award the contract to Oldsmobile for '68. Interesting to note the use of manual steering. I guess the power steering of the day was rather dead feeling, but I have also read in an original 1966 article that CHP didn't want there to be a problem if a PS belt broke during a chase. I don't know about that, but they were still using manual steering on the 1973 AMC Matador 401 cruisers.

I know the power steering on my '68 442 was very sensitive/too easy.

I remember driving several of these 425s back in the day, geared for highway and just floated along, great top end.

My guess is that it is a high-compression 425 with a humble 2-barrel carb & a deceptively low 310 horsepower rating. Tons of torque, 450 ft-lbs @ low rpm, amplified by the presence of a variable-pitch stator in the TH400 trans.

Man, the interior in that car is in better shape after 52 years than the interior of dad's '74 Biscayne after just 6 months!
