It may be old car steering, it has a different feeling than rack and pinion steering.
i went with a 605 Box, i had manual steering before so its a real change to get used to.
your box may need adjustment, no more that 4 inches play side to side at the steering wheel and no play when engine running.

don't know how they managed to drive the old 64"s on gravel non radial tires some big motors with the old power steering ,sure having a time getting used to it
I had a local jobber swap my old steering box to 3 turns lock to lock.
Jobber was involved in stock car racing and did his magic to my box.
Big difference.

yep I have same box 3 turns, new control valve, and ram ,, hoses ect,, front end done, and tight have noticed on highway it cruises along real nice steering wheel don't move very little to no play but in city it likes to wonder along following what ever road grove thats there ?? I am sure the problem is me,..I have a pair of older 60 "s on the front that I am not crazy about,I will change them tmrw with a pair of new not so wide tires and see if that helps ? me lol

Thanks guys to be honest I really didn"t mind the White, only did it to make it mine !! the bodys on the 64"s are so cool looking imho that I really think no matter the color they look sharp. not to sure on the whole hub cap thing yet but its growing on me.lol
Bill, run blackwalls on Rally II's for even days; then whitewall with wheelcovers on odd days. You have options.
I always loved the '64 Pontiacs, especially the Parisienne Custom Sport models. A neighbor's daughter in law used to frequently bring her gorgeous Silver Blue '64 CS convertible and park it in the driveway next to ours. The chrome, top, interior, exterior & trim were all kept like new. One day I saw a spec of rust on it in 1977. The car disappeared for a few months while they stripped it to bare metal & repainted it white. When she passed at the end of 1982 I did not see the car in her detached garage of her house (now the Fieldcote Museum in Ancaster). I did see it one more time in 1983 for sale. It didn't stay long. I wonder where it ended up and if it has a caring owner?
283 or 327, either is good. If you want more power then it should be obvious which way to go. Be aware that they put a stronger Powerglide behind 327 & larger engines.

Thanks Cameron between the 2 cars ,with hub caps, mags, now rallys seems all I do is change tires and rims. Funny thing I put the mags on the 69 and it looks like some punk owns it and drives the heck out of it,yet put the mags on the 64 it looks like some old man trying to be young,,haha...thank you for the PG tip..I do have the PG that came with the 327 I think it may have a higher stall then the 283 PG from factory also ??
Bill, I can't find the stall information on the Powerglides in question, other than Stall Torque Ratio of 2.10 for all. I do know the 'glides up to 307 cubes used a 1.82:1 low gear, while greater torque engines 327 cubes and up used a 1.76:1 low which means a smaller RPM drop into high. Also the 1.76 PG has a steel drum, plus an additional drive plate & reaction plate in the clutch pack. They can be built to withstand A LOT of horsepower. The factory offered them up to the 400-horse tri-power 427 Corvettes but racers have pushed more than double that.
