Hi guys new here I am working on a 1953 Pontiac chieftian its a 4 door sedan I cant figure out how to read the serial code on it and what type of paint it is it is a brown colour I have a pictu
I don't know the codes, but besides posting here I would try to find a 1953 Canadian Pontiac official shop manual. It should break down at least some of the codes.
Again I don't know the codes but I am positive that GM had a dark brown as a stock colour in 1953. I have seen a few Bel Airs painted as such.
So the engine should be a 239 Pontiac flathead six.

In my book (Catalogue of Canadian Car ID Numbers) your VIN and model number decodes as a Pathfinder Deluxe 4 door sedan, not a Chieftian. Chieftain VIN's start with 3256 and has model number 2500.
Baseprice for the Pathfinder Deluxe 4 door sedan was $2365. Your paint code (359) is Saddle Brown Metallic.
Tod I have never heard of a pathfinder deluxe before in my Pontiac shop chieftian manual it does not say anything about a pathfinder in it any more info you have on it I would love to know more my email is driver50@live.ca
