Looks very restorable.

Can Am was never offered for sale in Canada.

I have read a few reasons about the discrepancy in production numbers. Jim Wanger's who actually produced them probably knows how many they customized for Pontiac so that's the lower figure.

The higher figure relates to the possible number of cars produced by Pontiac for conversion and once the decision was made to stop customizing them those that were built were sprinkled into the main stream dealer network without graphics and the Gee Whiz parts. This theory means that there were plain Jane white cars with 400 CID V8's and Grand Prix interiors that were not really Can Ams available to the public. This theory has been substantiated from time to time with discovery of such cars.

Two reason I have read about why production stopped short of plans is A) the broken mould for the rear spoiler and being the last year of production not financial feasible to replace. B) the Grand Prix was selling like gangbusters and again being last year of production in that style the interior pieces were needed to meet Grand Prix demand.

I recall seeing one around Winnipeg in the very early 80's. I had no idea that car was imported.

There is ONE here in Toronto, same owner has a 1973 Grand Am 4 speed he bought in his youth when it was a 2 year old car. He went in to buy a Trans Am but the salesman turned him on to the 4 speed GA and he went for it.
