66 Beaumont Custom Convertible Manitoba

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/winnipeg/1966-beaumont-custom-convertible/1412241409?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

Browsing at lunch and came across this beauty, I think I was first to respond and sounds like exactly what I'm looking for.  But alas buyer says price is firm so by time I fly to view, ship, taxes and BC inspection I'm over $40K...I guess search continues

I dont get it though, I was asking $27K for mine which was a very comparable car and it still took a while to sell and even dropped a bit on final sale.  Have prices changed in 2 short years or just the luck of the draw??

Anyway sharing for others that may be of interest.

I know the car very well. Our member here, 68sd396rag owned and basically built that car. He must have had it 25 years. Now my friend owns it, he lives about 4 miles away. Super cool car.

I should add, the seller just turned 71 and he has been playing with Beaumonts since they were only a few years old. He knows Beaumonts as well as anyone I've ever met.

I'm not sure if it will or not. He may decide he just wants to sell it and take an offer, yes.

One thing I am safe in saying, I know he's not selling it because he needs the money so it's not like he has to sell it.

I may be going to visit him tomorrow. I can ask him if you like.

I am thinking it likely even has more factory options than the ad shows. It seems to me it has a GTO tach and gauge cluster in it, and possibly a speedwarning as well. At one time it did have a factory AM/FM as well. Of course all of this stuff has been added, it wasn't built with all these toys, but cool stuff all the same.

Thank you again, sounds so cool...feel free to ask but I got impression he's not going to budge but who knows? Tell him he can even take off some of the cool stuff if needed to lower. :). Heck yank out the cool 327 and throw anything in that runs decent and I would be happy. Lol.

Ok, I'll try to remember to talk to him about it if I run out there. I need to go see him because I'm hoping he has a bypass valve for an old style 283/327 with the cannister oil filter. He's got lots of old junk lying around so he may be able to help me.

And I'll mention the engine part too. I'm not sure what he'd have for a good small block but he may have something. I'll have a beautiful running low mileage 283 on the floor here shortly but I'm not so sure I want to sell it and if so, I'm afraid there's a number of guys who would be inline ahead of him.

If you've been following my upcoming engine swap in my Strato Chief, he's the guy I swapped 427 blocks with to get a "matching numbers" block for my 66.

Oh and if it helps even the slightest, it would live a priveleged life with me. My old Beaumont only got wet when washed very rarely and NEVER driven in the rain.....not an easy feat here on the 'wet' coast. Lol

Throw on some old steelys too, I can always find some rally's

I can't say I followed the 427 story closely but does ring a bell, his wife said he ran the local auto body shop for 35 years so I figured he was a hard core hot rod guy.

All joking aside (only partly ) enjoy your visit if you go, hope he has what you're looking for, and appreciate your insight.

Yes, he is a natural at paint and body. I've known him for about 50 years and he had a knack for doing beautiful paint/body stuff even when he was a teenager. He struggled financially all the years when he ran his own shop. He finally got out of the business and started a business injecting liquid manure from barns into farmers fields and now he finally has the money to build the old cars he's always loved so much. He would be the first one to tell you he sometimes had to sell valuable old cars and parts he didn't want to give up just to feed his family.

He designed and built this, just to give you an idea of his work.

Yeah that guy is above talented. Was fun to meet Brian and tour his yard of Beaumonts plus see the motor home hauler when visiting Carl in June. Another very nice thing about Brian is that he is as humble as they come. Most guys would have a pretty large hat size if they could do what he can plus have such an extensive collection of cars.

Wow, that's a beautiful car.  A little pricey, but looks like you would be getting a lot of car for your money - you couldn't build one for that.  And, trustworthy CP members built and know the car, and know the seller.  Sounds like a win-win to me.

IHMO, once you start removing this and that to get the price down, you are compromising the car, and you still have to spend the money to replace it with something.  It's actually quite perfect as is (again, IMHO).

If it were me, I'd ask local members (Carl?) to take specific pics for you during his visit, so you are comfortable with the purchase, see if they can keep it for you until the spring, fly in, drive home and have the adventure of a lifetime.

Or, save the money for the flight and ship it home directly.

I just need to knock off a lottery win and maybe I'll have a look myself... biggrin

Thanks John, appreciate your detailed notes about the car, sounds just so awesome!  Originality with a hint of modern touches and power to improve the experience!  And I absolutely love the colour too.

Thank you too Mark, you've posted words of wisdom on some of my other 'looking for car' posts, and you are 100% correct on all points. In the grand scheme of things if I spend another $5K is it a big deal???? (maybe to the better half ;)) especially when all you experienced folks here know the car and vouch for build quality not to mention the honesty and integrity of the previous and current owners....Arrgh, I said to myself I wouldn't spend more than $30K especially since I just picked up a new motorcycle 2 weeks ago...I know if I hesitate someone else will snap it up. Going to view it and the storage and/or delivery is such a hassle at this time of year so I really appreciate your thoughts on that point....Lots to think about but I know I need to "S*&% or get off the pot" as they say.

As far as I know the only changes he has made are the engine and I know the mufflers were bad on it at one point so I assume they are new.

And as the saying goes, "you can't build it for that".

When I was out there this morning we were looking at the 67 SD convert he's doing right now. He said the paint was $1000 a gallon. I knew paint has gotten crazy, but wow....

If you parted out just the factory options and sold them all off seperate,  you would be close to the asking price, and still have a whole car.

IT is a wicked car!

Hey, I understand financial limitations as much as the next guy and would never want to tell you what to do one way or the other.

Just trying to provide a little "food for thought" before you completely dispense with the idea.  It's still a lot of cash no matter how you look at it.  Do what is right for you.  :)

Don't give it a second thought, I KNOW that it can't be duplicated for the same $, just wrestling with my own glass ceiling.
