Incredible welding

Like the car or not, you've got to appreciate the welder's talent. "Only needed a DA to smooth the welds".

If you believe that, I have a bridge I'll sell you... I think he may have embellished just a little.

I'd love to know how they covered up the grinding marks. Whenever I grind my welds it's obvious!

The best era for Ford trucks!
I just sold our daily driver. It was the worst vehicle I ever had for problems. Most of them caused by our brutal climate. Now to find a suitable replacement. I envy you guys out west!

Remember when you questioned why I changed the whole 1/4 on my rag ?

Yes, but I still think it's foolish to replace a 1/4 that is 99% rock solid when the NOS 1/4 is likely worth $1500...

2 types of flap wheel. trimmable and non trimmable. Trimmable last longer because you can clean up the outer edge.

Trimmable                                                                                                                                                 Non trimmable

Walter Enduro-Flex Flap Disc, 4-1/2" Diameter, 120 Grit, Type 29, 5/8"-11 Thread Size, Trimmable Wood Fiber Backing, Zirconia Alumina (Pack of 10)                           nu883.jpg

 ... and the Walter is a screw-on.

Don`t skimp on quality, Walter discs last longer than Crappy Tire and Princess Auto discs. Goes for cut-off wheels ago ... buy a name brand.

Agree on that note! Ran out of good discs when I replaced the 1/4`s on my Canso. Went to princess and bought some(to long of a drive to work). Took 4 Princess disc(@ .99 ea) to cut off my 1/4. On the other side I used (1) Walter disc and still had 2/3 left(3.29ea)!! Cut just as fast(so no extra labour cost). Same old...you get what you pay for!

I didnt know about the trimmable flap disks. How do you actually trim them?

I did learn about the difference quality makes for grinding & cut-off disks. I was amazed by the first good quality grinding disk I got. Just no comparison to the crappy tire ones.

Just put up against a sharp edge while grinder is on(spinning). I often clamp a piece of flat bar in the vise, then turn grinder on and let spin against it..pushing to clean up the edge.
