Fellow buys 100 year old hoarder's house in Alberta

And finds quite a few treasures. Lot's of pure Canadian banter back and forth hey! Also love the Ambulance the guys drives. There are several parts to this. Here is part 1 and 2. You may also want to skip some of the guy's rambling at the beginning, when he is at his hotel room etc.

Watching the Part 1, was trying to figure out where he is, but couldn't tell by watching the first 7 or 8 minutes. I love the RCMP station he drives by at 7:05.

The videos are a little long-winded, so I just scanned through them.

It is a lot of fun/excitement (and also dirty and labourious) doing this. Your adrenaline actually gets pumping (at least that's what it feels like to me).

I've done a few (a hardware store in Toronto, a house in Cobourg, ON., a house in Cardigan, PEI, a house in Margate, PEI among others), but I only bought selected items and not the whole building. All were VERY interesting picks and stories.smile

Pretty sure the house is in Prevost, AB.

With all the pottery he found it appears he scored at least a half million in treasures.

Part 4

thanks for sharing this!
I just watched them all - including the fifth episode (linked below);
I have a job where I can work, and let a video like this play, then if I want to see something, i can backup to see what I missed.

Finding the cash was cool - I don't fault him for spending it, but those bills were probably all in better shape than the one's I saved...

I like seeing this house clean up - I love historic houses - and like that he seems to be leaning towards bringing the history of the house back.
I hope he does well from this "investment", and he seems to have ALOT of sweat equity, and still sees problems...

I love old houses too. We just found out some history of our PEI farm house. I figured it was built around 1890 but appears to be much older- about 1840. I found a web page about the original settler to our land. It was originally 80 acres- spanning across our road quite a bit. Now it's 8.75 acres. I'm going to visit the provincial building in Charlottetown at some point and check the land records to find an exact date. I'm in the midst of renovating one of the spare bedrooms. I found the original owners last name written in pencil behind one of the door trim pieces. Likely from the mill who cut it. He must have built the house himself. I can tell you one thing- he was a good builder but terrible at applying plaster! Sadly we have not found any hidden treasures in our house yet.

It's cool finding out the history of our old houses.

Ours was relocated inland by horses and sledges at some point in the late 1800s. I don't know exactly how they did it. The original deed on the land is 1827... Captain John Harding.

I've found the debris field (trash heap) at the original location (which I found on the Meacham's Atlas - Joseph Harding, 187 acres):

http://www.islandimagined.ca/fedora/repository/imagined:208389

I have all kinds of artifacts from the trash heap - clay smoking pipes, buckles, buttons, and hundreds of pottery/china shards with beautiful colours and patterns).

While doing renovations, I found a homemade concrete safe in the 1st. floor ceiling, with a hidden trap door from the second floor ... it was empty.cry

Yes, I'd say you're right.   Provost, AB.   I knew it was south of Lloydminster somewhere as he's initially driving east on Highway 16 (Yellowhead Highway), and he said it was near the Saskatchewan border.    I just didn't think he was quite that far south, but it's pretty desolate over that way.     There's a couple tell-tale buildings in the video, and I can see them on Google satellite view.

I've got a whack of distant cousins in Provost (and across the Sask border in Macklin), maybe I was related to the hoarder.

I've been watching the various follow up videos (he's up to episode 11) and it's actually kind of interesting. We speculated it was Provost AB, and he's indicated that a few times. He's found some good stuff, and he's fixing up the house to make it livable, with a vintage type kitchen.

No goofy stuff, just a decent guy sharing his experiences. In episode 11 he was putting some stuff in his vehicle, and I spotted some 1969 Pontiac hubcaps already in there.
