Nice colour combo, but still $20K for a project car?  Seems steep to me, but maybe my opinions are out of date.  Looks like quite a bit of cheese in the quarters, so who knows what you will find.  I suppose of floors and frame are very good, and mechanical is good, it might be alright but I still see like $20K of work that it needs.

I'm curious as to the opinions of you guys who have restored one or are in the middle of restoring one.  (ashmore?)

Is this a reasonable deal or overpriced project car?

over priced for sure-wheres the side trim? The trunk lid looks like it had the lower edge welded back on-its a huge project-but they all are. You'd have 60-70k into that car finished-unless you did everything yourself-and then it is lots and lots of hours.

Certainly a very desirable car when new or after being properly restored. But how much is it going to cost to properly restore it???
Ad says car is in Wasaga Beach so right next door to me.

go take a look and let everyone know what you find out-personally I think it looks like a complete replace and restore-all metal etc..there is nothing in any of the pictures to say otherwise

Is this not the same car that was on here a while ago that was sold for around $8500-$9500?
I remember a yellow SD 396 with pics of it in a garage, nose in, with the same bodywork.
I may be wrong, but it sure looks like it. As far as price, it's going to need another 20k just in bodywork and paint alone....and that's just what's visible. Barrett Jackson syndrome has reared its ugly head again as far as rare car prices go. It might sit for a while at that price.

Found it. 67acadiansd bought it back in June 2017.
Under '68 SD 396 bought', page 6 (right now) of general beaumont discussion.
That car was on kijiji for 8500 or 9500. I can't remember exactly, but I almost bit at it. It was too much even then with all the metal that needs replacing. Maybe he can shed some light on it.

That was on Kijiji two or three years ago when the first person (or so he said) got it from the original owner. I talked to him a few times about it and turned it down at $6500. No side trim, said original paint but the car is rough and he was going to buy a bunch of parts I had to fix it up but finally gave up on it and said too much work. I don't recall it being in a barn but whatever.

If this somehow merits consideration for a $20K project, what is this attached pic 1 stock example valued at? It was bought for under $20K 6 years ago, then underwent a few upgrades to bring into 21st century for (driving quality and performance), the car it is today ( Restomod). I got slagged on Kijiji for investing $$$$$$ ad expecting a fair price for a car that would be a better driving experience from burnouts to cruising at a reasonable $$$ and loss. Kijiji as a few have mentioned on this site, is free, so it's open season on a seller who knows the car for it's personal and intrinsic value as well as invested cost value and losses due to failures and poor workmanship, sometimes naive decisions are costly but rarely do these classics get advertised with the real costs involved in restoration and ownership. I've included pics of transformation and I believe $$$ can't translate into the enjoyment of the experience of driving what it was and what you have built. Thanks for understanding if you read this thread.

All: Thanks for posting info and opinions about this car.  The reason for my post was that $20K seemed a little outrageous to me, for a car that looks like it needs 'everything'.  The free market will prove whether it is or not in the long run.  To me it's not.

Les: I wouldn't even want to try to put a value on your car, but I will say I like very much what you've done with it, maintaining the stock appearance and not trying to clone it into something while adding parts that will make it a much better car to drive.  Very nice!

Feature car ?

Your points are well taken.

Most people build to enjoy.

Like my 88 Cougar XR-7

Worthless,

because no one else wanted one.

Rare,

because no one else wanted one biggrin

I enjoy it and that's all that matters.

I'm with you, I would be fine with that. Some guys have done a complete makeover on their cars since feature time, colour change, new interior, powertrain etc. and the car is a totally different car that when it was featured in the past.

Also, many many new members here who have not seen some of the cars that were featured way back when.

(I hesitated posting this because people will think I want my car featured again with the new powertrain, and I am NOT posting this for that reason!)

You actually gave me a good idea with this Randy.

If Todd wants to do just fresh features rather than do what we discussed above, why don't guys go back to when their car was featured and update that thread with new pics, details etc of the changes that were made. That way we can follow each car along as it gets worked on.

I will do that for mine when we have some nicer weather for photo opportunities.

I'd rather see the original feature thread get updated. I would like to hope there's still lots of "new" cars to feature without having to do repeats.
