I saw him play last January in San Juan Capistrano, California. I've been wanting to see him for years, so I figured I'd better hurry up while he was still alive. A legend is gone.

Oh man! He literally invented the genre of surfer music. I knew he was old yet he kept up with it.

I have some Dick Dale music. I like some surf.

He inspired and created a lot of younger surf bands ... so surf lives on, too bad the father of surf doesn't now.cry

Most folks give credit to Jan and Dean or The Beach Boys for doing "Surf" music first. Dick Dale was the first by creating that distinctive sound with a Fender Stratocaster guitar.
