No seatbelt..

Who in their right mind would drive a cobra unbelted, or without shoulder harnesses?

Roll bar seems like a must in a high powered convertible.

Hard to believe he survived as well as it sounds he did after rolling several times with no seatbelt. The car must be metal, it looks not bad too for having been rolled. I bet those cars are real tricky to drive with the short wheel base and big power plus light weight.

I would say more like spun around a couple times, doubt it rolled. Windshield intact with sunvisors, mirror still on, quarters look fine other than the muddy 1...... unless it did the rolls in the air and landed on it's wheels....sensational journalism as usual.....

Minor derail:  Ya, underrated little cars. Mine was tweaked a bit (Headers and duals-Corvair Monza Turbo mufflers, no cat no AIR plus a carb off a Kingswood Estate 400)  but I ran door handle to door handle with a 75 Corvette up Hwy 400, flat out.

A few thoughts:

1) Most likely a replica Cobra, as original ones are extremely rare.  Even if it were an original, I think that they were sold as AC Cobras, or Shelby Cobras... so, not a Ford (not "Ford carnage").

2) Haven't seen a front end shot, but it looks like lots of involvement with the front end and mucho mud on the rear, so it looks like there was significant impact somehow or another.

3) Driver was ejected and landed near the fence, which looks to be about 15 - 20 feet away.  A simple spin would not have ejected him such a distance, and a simple front end collision would have thrown him against the steering wheel and windshield (which doesn't appear to be broken).  Therefore I would conclude that there was some form of a roll to toss him out of the top of the vehicle - maybe it flipped up and landed on its wheels again?

4) The dark spot on the pavement next to the vehicle looks like it could be oil, but I'm thinking it was muddy water splashed from the ditch?  Still seems like a strange spot for the pavement to be wet, but might give some clues as to the dynamics of the crash.

No matter, I always hate to see a car guy run into bad fortune with his car.  At least it sounds like he wasn't too seriously injured.

Back when I had my red 63 split window vette, I was out driving somewhere in my truck one Sunday morning and heard on the radio that a fellow had died in an identical car on the 4 lane between Hfx and Truro. The car had flipped at night and when police and fire arrived, the car was busted so much, they thought they were looking at a motorcycle accident. I have a pic of the left over car somewhere, they calculated he was doing 120MPH when he left the road. The car flipped over and flew 150 ft in the air before landing upside down. There was hardly any fibreglass left attached to the car.
The driver was 57, my age when this happened. Since the odds of 2 57 year olds having this same car, I called my mother to let her know that it wasn't me in the accident.

My Dad told me of a story that chilled him to the bone, he arrived home to the phone ringing. It was his aunt calling as she heard on the radio that a gentleman by the same name, living on the same street and driving a 52 buick 4 door was involved in a fatal accident earlier that day. The odd were in my dads favour that day.
