Our Arizona trip

We came home late last night (well, actually I got to sleep at 4 AM this morning) from 2 weeks in a rented house about 20 minutes south of Phoenix. Great place to be this time of year, between 27* - 30* all but one of our 14 days.

A few sights from the trip. Sorry, we bought a US cell phone and the pics are kind of poor quality.

NBA game, Phoenix Suns vs. Washington Wizards. What a great deal, 6 tickets for $84 US total and the game ticket gave us free train rides 1/2 hour each way from the Park-n-Ride so we didn't have to drive downtown!

One of the highlights for me, the dwarf car museum is only about 10 minutes from our house we rented. Such cool stuff!

Easily my favourite is the 64 Impala SS convertible under construction! He even made a scaled down housing for a little factory tach and found a small short sweep tach to fit it! The guy building is the guy in glasses in the above picture and he's building the duplicate dwarf of his full size triple black 64 SS convert 327/300 4 speed.

He hasn't downsized the steering wheel yet.

The car is about 67% the size of the real car.

sounds like you got a lot better deal on basketball tickets than when we were there about 10 years ago. Sky high ticket prices, and a beer was over $10.

This little 3 window has a Toyota 4 cylinder and manual trans. It's what he and his buddy put in almost all the dwarfs they build. They make a split exhaust manifold and it sure sounds cool with duals on it. He had just fired this one up for the first time the day before I got there.

I took in a small car show one Saturday morning. Some REAL nice cars, the 60 was a total knockout. The trim condition was 99.9% perfect!

The museum is out in the desert on a little gravel road!

When I was leaving, this guy was in the way. I had to drive around him....   No rattle......

Same routine every day, get up, pick up the ipad, sit by the pool a little while (15-20 minutes) before the sun was too much for me but in that time I could catch up on reading you-know-what-forum....

Almost every day the needle ended up in the same spot in the afternoon.

Well I'm glad for you, sounds like you had a great time. In my mind being in the southern States is almost better than Hawaii or Mexico just because of the many things to do. Have to say I do prefer our location here in California just because of the size of Phoenix and area. I'm still a small town boy and it's easy getting around here.

One morning I went out to a local wrecker.

Wow.....

Look at this metal..... Both quarters on this 65 Grand Prix were exceptional.

20190321_125932[1].jpg

How often do you see a 66 Chevelle wagon 1/4 like this?

20190321_131910[1].jpg

Look at this 66 Pontiac front fender. Other side is the same.....

20190321_133626[1].jpg

But most of all, this is how the quarters looked on this 66 sedan....... I just sat and stared at them for a while, in amazement!

Which wrecker is that Carl? I'm guessing Hidden Valley Auto Wreckers.

Jerel, we are actually about 25 miles from Phoenix, in Maricopa. It's our 3rd yeard going there and we love it. Maricopa is 48,000 so small enough to be able to get around easily, large enough to have everything we need.

I ran to Phoenix/Mesa area 3 times when we were there, and all 3 were trips involving old car parts! Otherwise we have nothing to do with Phoenix.

Oh, 4 times, once more for the basketball game!

Glad you had a Great trip Carl, I was there (Mesa) in 2015 too around the same time, got to see Steve Barcak Pontiac Heaven car show and drag race, also his Pontiac cars and parts Heaven yard. I might have been to that same auto wrecker, I also climbed Superstition mountain...

Sounds like you had an amazing time and found time to do some " old car guy" stuff.
Thanks for thinking of us and posting even if it does sort of rub it in.

C3A7C7A4-3ABB-47F2-80DF-6B064188B6B2.jpegThe Dwarf car museum is a must if you are in the Phoenix area. The owner, Ernie, is a great guy and obviously extremely talented. Being a Ford man and the owner of two convertibles, I have to say that it is a no brainer that my favorite Dwarf is Ernie's '42 Ford Deluxe convertible. Second choice is the Merc. We have been spending January, February, and March in Apache Junction for the past fourteen winters. This winter was definitely much cooler but much warmer than the minus 30 and 40 crap they had back home. It is finally warming up to my kind of temperatures, plus 30 degrees. There is no end to things one can do in Arizona. There is something for everyone.

I could wander the junkyards all day. Too bad Hidden Valley is only about 1/4 the size it used to be when across the road, and Desert Valley has reduced the number of their yards. I had a real quick tour around Pontiac Heaven one day, but could have spent way more time there.

I have been saying it was one of our best vacations ever.

2 weeks in Arizona at that time of year is perfect. I'm glad we got out of there when we did though because it was 97 there on Tuesday.

Always a great trip to the valley of the sun. Almost bought a place there in '05 (Sun City) and then discovered Sedona.

Was first there in summer 66 after dropping down from Flagstaff on our way along route 66 to LA.

Haven't been for about 7 - 8 years maybe time to revisit.....smile
