Yikes. Check out those back brakes glowing from the driver trying to stop it!

Crazy!  Sounds like those things should have some kind of remote fuel shutoff for just such occurrences!

It said in the video that the engine was running on crankcase oil after the turbo blew. I have seen transport trucks do this when the turbo seals fail also. No way to shut it off unless you can stall it or have a way to block off the intake air. The old Detroit two strokes had an emergency shut off on the blower that was a flap that shut off the air intake.

Crankcase oil... wild!  I guess I was not listening carefully enough... did not know they would run off crankcase oil!

In England Diesel engines were at one time called oil engines. If the engine is hot enough they will run on engine oil. The old Detroit two stroke diesel would also run backwards and make them almost impossible to stall because the governor would think the engine was slowing down and give it full fuel ( wide open throttle). The fix was the emergency stop to shut off the intake and starve the engine of air. No air, no combustion.

Runaway's are scary!

I worked at a place that built Generator sets. Nothing too huge the biggest I saw was 300 KW prime power shack/set for a work camp. Each one was subject to a 10 hour load test though, at max draw with a huge load bank. This one set the engine came in without a "G" pump so they had to modify the pump it had. Whoever did the work messed something up. As soon as it fired it went to the moon...and nobody wanted to get near enough to it to block the air intake. It eventually windowed the block...

I think the guy said this one ran backwards. I remember seeing a video where a guy tried to shut off a runway diesel in a transport truck with a rag and it just sucked it in and made no difference!

Most oil field sites wont let you on site without an air shutdown. Diesels get an uncontrolled whiff of natural gas and theyre revving to the moon.

Does anyone know what makes them run backwards.

In my experience, I have seen transports backing up hill to a loading dock and stall and immediately start again when the truck lurches forward while in reverse. I dont think that it would happen to the newer computer controlled engines but certainly the old ones will run backwards. The old Detroit 71 series would immediately go to full fuel when this happened and if the emergency stop didnt work the engine would grenade very quickly.

Wow, I have had a few Gas engines dynoed and seen many others done but always in a controlled test room , never a chassis Dyno, this is absolutely crazy stuff. They eluded to the continuation of the burn was attributed to engine oil, I wonder if the Five shots of Nitrous had anything to do with the continuation of burn ?
I don't think, in fact I know I would not have remained as collected as the driver or tuner did. Woww.
