Canadian Poncho Daily kijiji parts ad mashup

Hey all,  I have a suggestion...

Every day I see all these helpful kijiji ads posted for parts that board members might need to keep their Canadian Ponchos on the road, but they tend to disappear quickly to the bottom of the page, and then off to later pages.

I'm thinking that anybody looking for parts for their car might never see them once they reach page 3 and beyond (especially if you browse using the "Recent Posts" function like I do).

So I'd like to suggest that we post parts ads that we see on kijiji in a separate thread, so they will be easier to find.  Anybody looking for parts would be able to check the thread from time to time to see whatever has been posted since they last looked.

The postings on cars for sale often take on a life of their own, so they probably don't need to be in one thread, but the parts often are the ones to disappear off the page.

What do you think?

I like your idea. And by the way buyer beware on that 66 Acadian parting out ad in Winnipeg. People say he can be interesting to deal with.

Parts...good idea for sure. You can always start at the last page and work backwards when the list gets big.

But entire Cars I prefer to see them separate. I like the eye catching nature of seeing them appear every so often on the recent posts.

There is already a separate listing heading for ebay, kijiji etc cars and parts ads and any kijiji "finds" I see are posted in that category.
Might it be easier to break it into 2 separate listings, one for parts and one for entire cars? Perhaps.

When I'm just doing my daily look see at everything CP then I also use the recent posts which covers all headings. This allows me to stay current with others on the site without having to bounce between categories/headings.

What about a daily thread for parts and a daily thread for cars? That wouldn't be very intrusive.

It was just an idea I thought I'd toss out there.  When looking at 'recent posts' I'd notice a lot of parts ads would come up at once and then most would disappear within a day if they weren't responded to.  For me, I do 99% of my CP browsing on Recent Posts, and I'm sure it differs for many, so maybe it's not very important for most.

This was just a suggestion to see if it would be a good idea to keep the many parts posts together, but at the end of the day, it's everybody's decision as to how they want to post.  So just food for thought...

I log in and check any categories which I have an interest in which have a recent post. When you go into a category, such as Kijiji , each post I havent read is highlighted. I read the ones I am interested in and ignore the rest. I keep going back until I see a non highlighted ad and know then Ive seen everything older.

I find this works great but hate when the subject line is not descriptive, like its says, Pontiac parts for sale instead of say 1967 Beaumont front bumper for sale. If I see that and Im not interested in the part, I dont even have to open it. Those that say you gotta see this or parts for sale waste my time and may be ignored. Norontcan does a great job with his descriptions in the subject line.

In case there are guys who aren't aware of it you can set up the thread so that the newest posts show at the top not at the bottom. That would help exactly with a thread like this so you don't have to go to the bottom of it each time you open it.

I never realized that it was customizable. Mine is set up with the newest posts at the top as Carl suggests.

How do you do this, Carl?

The "newest first/oldest first" drop-down at the bottom of the opened thread.

Ahhh... thanks!  Looked right past it!  confuse

I was looking for something in the thread set-up that the person who started the thread had to do... this is much less complicated! biggrin

Glad Darryl helped out. I was travelling today and the only time I had a few minutes for internet was with airport wi-fi but he had it all taken care of before I had a chance! Thanks Darryl.
