Got a squeak you cant find? Options? Solutions!

I  have a squeak around the lower corner of the drivers side windshield.  At times it sound like metal fatigue with 2 pieces of metal rubbing against each other.

Another possibility is the sound is coming from under the drivers seat.

Wouldn't you know it, it only does this while driving and one cant get his head or body in the area of the noise while driving.

I thought of a solution... place extra small speakers in a given area and see if you can amplify the sound.  Would the speaker pick up the sound or is there a microphone that one could use mounted in various places.   Can i project the sound captured through my blue tooth from the radio in my car.

By moving the microphone/speaker i could get close to isolating the source of the noise.

Any body had this type of annoyance.   What was your plan of attack?

Cliff

They can be a SOB to find.  Can you get a passenger to ride in the back seat with a stethoscope and listen around your seat? Does the car need to be moving? Try rocking it side to side or up and down. I would check your exhaust and e-brake cables.

Running headers. Noise closer to the windshield area.

The dealerships have "Chassis Ears" used for finding noises. It consists of a control box and several leads. You clip the ends of the leads to different parts of the chassis. You drive the car with headphones on. There's a dial on the control box that allows you to select which lead you want to listen to. The loudest lead is the problem area. Works great.

Buy some cedar shims from home depot. Make up a bunch of small wedges and place them in strategically a few at a time in any gaps in and around and under the area of the dash.

Place them in the door gaps, and even in the hood gaps. See if it diminishes or goes away with any of the placements. You might be able to vector in on it this way Cliff.
