I'd like to know if that "rag top" is documented?? ad doesn't mention anything about that, or if it came that way??? [ CLONE] Only a very small # were built in 65 before the 396 came into production.

Not likely...no 425 hp in 65 and you can bet if it was an orig documented 409 it would be mentioned.

No problem 'building' the 409 425hp for the car but why put a 2 speed PG in it, that's just not right....cry

...emblems on the 63 front fender are incorrect for a 63......look to be 65 or 64 with a 409......makes you wonder about the resto.

We have seen documentation on here that suggests that 74 409 1965 Pontiacs were produced and we have seen 5 of these posted on this forum over the years. 1965 came in two flavours, 340 HP or 400 HP.

Documents posted on here suggest at least 30 1964 409's built which is the actual number of 340 HP cars so no hard data yet on 400 and 425 HP cars. To my mind 1964 were more plentiful than either 63 or 65 but that is my pure impression.  By my count we have seen only 2 posted on this forum. 1963 seems to be the most elusive in terms of data and we have never really seen any good documentation but have seen 2 posted here.

If this data is complete that's 76 409's in 1964. The number 10 for the high horsepower is very plausible in my opinion. That is consistent with what we see with the top 427 Ponchos in later years

As you know Ray I bought a new CS in 1964 409 425hp 4sp. I have the pictures and know that the car was wrecked in 1970.

Hey Brian, I bet you never saw another car like yours. How long did it take to get delivery, I seem to recall a 6 to 8 week waiting period back then on factory orders. My last factory order was for a 1986 Monte Carlo SS, I ordered it on August 29, 1985 without knowing any model changes for 1986 or even firm pricing which was delivered on November 10, 1985 from Arlington Texas.

While we are skeptical on originality of this particular car, GM Canada did offer various 409 engines in Canadian Pontiacs 1963 through 1965 Marty.

The car came from Hogans on the Danforth. My Dad had done some business with them and he knew the head salesman. The car was delivered in May around my birthday, to my recollection it was a 8 week special order. When it arrived Randy Heiss the salesman was told not to let anyone drive the car at the dealership by my Dad and not to put a Hogan tag on the trunk. (cause they drilled holes in those days). It arrived exactly as ordered, Maroon with a white vinyl roof, red interior, white wall tires and full hubcaps. My mother drove the car home that day as she did the next 10 new cars. She drove it many times over the next few years and always had a smirk on her face when she chirped the rear tires going into second gear. The engine kept breaking valve keys so I went to a Crowler valve train, Springs, keepers and high lift solid lifter cam. This change really change really put some jam in the engine. It had snow tires for the winter too. These where the engine decals from my car.

I remember a Chevrolet magazine ad showing the 425 HP components laid out in front of a 1965 Chevy.

It stated the 425 HP components could be dealer installed on a 400 HP 409.

Thanks
Randy

Thanks Brian for that history. Hogan was where my Dad dealt, I count 7 brand new cars, 6 Pontiac and one Buick. I bought only one from Hogan, that 1986 Monte Carlo SS, by that time they had moved to far reaches of north east Scarborough where they still are today.

Cousin Randy, This is consistent with the story on that 65 Parisienne in Georgetown. Owner insists car came that way which seems to tell me he had 425 package installed before delivery.

As mentioned in previous threads this was Rene Lediard's car and as an apprentice I helped with the 'PDI' (pre delivery inspection)

at York Mills Pontiac and knew it was a special car. It was however a 400 hp at that point.
