Nice story for animal/pet lovers

For the last couple of years, actually since shortly after we moved into our house here in Morris, we've seen a white dog trotting around our neighbourhood. We know all the people's pets here in the area except we could never figure out this one little white dog. The dog was often talked about on the Facebook page but nobody was ever able to catch him. Mystery solved by a Facebook post on our local town page today, and what a cool story it is....  Grand Forks, ND is 105 miles south of here.

Feel good story. Some animals are amazing when it comes to the distances that they travel.

I was thinking about that poor thing with our winters. I wonder where it slept at night. It gets pretty nasty sometimes.

Thanks for posting that, Carl.  Animals never cease to amaze me in their abilities to persevere - they possess way more intelligence (and personality) than we give them credit for.

I read a book a couple of years ago about these guys who adopted a pet pig - they were told would grow no bigger than a dog.  Well, it grew to something like 600 lbs but they were so attached to it they adapted their lifestyle to fit hers.  In the book they describe the intelligence and personality that she displayed and were completely taken by surprise, as pigs are typically just passed off as dumb farm animals whose only purpose is to be slaughtered.  It really helped to remind me that amazing things can go unrecognized that we tend to take for granted.  I really started watching animals at that point (adopting a rescue cat also helped me understand further, as I am continually amazed at how perceptive and intuitive he is) and I am continually noticing intricacies that I had never given attention to before.  They are more like us than we realize, I think, just trying to survive and get on with their lives.

In some ways, as I consider the mass shootings and political rhetoric that has become a part of our everyday lives at this point, I think they are much better than us...

I can't tell you how many time's I've read the story and looked at the picture of the dog since I first saw it on the local Facebook page! I still smile in amazement that the little guy endured like he did.

Makes me wonder if somebody provided shelter for him for awhile.  Amazing that he could make it on his own for so long!

I thought about that but all the postings about him over that long period said the same thing, "I am not able to catch him".

Great story!! Glad to see that the little guy made it and that the control trapper released him unharmed in to the proper hands! Trappers have hearts too!!!Good to see that he endured and survived for such a long period especially with all the predators around Morris!! Coyotes,Eagles,Bobcats-you name it!

Our rescue cat was left behind in an empty apartment for 3 weeks after the tenants (A-holes) moved. He managed to survive until the landlord found him. When the Humane Society got him, he had a cold/respitory infection, was under weight, and dehydrated.disbelief

He has turned out to be the sweetest cat out of the all the cats I've owned!

I don't know if it was luck or smarts that kept him around town but you are right, lots of predators here even including the odd bear every year or two. I don't think he would have made it out in the country. I'm curious who had live traps setup for coyotes, although that could be a made up news item. Someone may have had a trap setup for an annoying neighbour's pet or something and caught this guy. He always looked healthy when he walked through here, although he did look to be a bit on the old side.
