The Selling price of a new 1970 GTO Judge in Canada

This car was at the Garden City car show on sunday as was its one and only owner

I noticed that a copy of the original invoice was in was displayed

If one looks at it you will see at the bottom that there is a notation in writing adding the amount of 160.00 to the invoice cost.

When I asked the owner about that, he said he had factory ordered the car and had ordered it without power steering.  When the car arrived his salesman convinced him it needed power steering.  The dealer installed it for 160.00

He also couldn't order it from the factory with air conditioning - he went to Advance Automotive and got the underdash unit installed - says it still works

Nice car. According to the Bank of Canada's inflation calculator $5870 in 1970 translates to $39228 in 2019 $$. Just goes to show you how much we are getting ripped off on new cars as there's no musclecar that I know of that would be $39228 today.

With the late year-model pricing incentives, looks like they are right on the mark, except the Mustang is a little cheaper than the others.  Mind you these prices are before freight and PDI, taxes, etc.

I really miss the days when you could just get a basic car and hand-pick your options as you want them.  Nowadays you pretty much have to order a trim level, with a few options here and there but not to the extent that you could in 1970.

I stand corrected lol. I agree with Mark. It's sad we can't pick and chose options. It would actually be easier today to do this with all the advances in computers and automation and we should be able to order and build our car from our computer (or phone ap). We are so behind in so many ways.

To be fair, Todd, the window sticker price appears to include tax and freight, whereas the above MSRPs do not.  Then there's probably A/C tax etc tossed on top of that.  That said, the list of standard equipment on today's cars is much more extensive (A/C, power windows, power steering, power brakes, etc. all included).

I believe the packaging came from a Japanese model, whereby it is more efficient from a cost and factory build point of view, to build whole runs with all the same equipment.  The US companies seemed to follow suit.  Good for them, but less interesting for us.  Not to mention that colour availability is much less - especially when it comes to interior colours... black, beige, or grey now (some available with red seats or accents), but back in the day: black, white, red, blue, green, aqua, beige, gold, etc...

I think he was misinformed fifty years ago by the salesman;
I am pretty sure it has been proven that the only way you could not get A/C on a 1970 GTO was:
1) RAIV
2) w/close ratio 4 speed
3) w/performance axle ratio (iirc it was required with close ratio 4 spd, but available separately)
