65 wiper motor question. Weird?

Pulled the wiper assembly and motor from the 65 today.

Noticed it had a strange looking pump assembly and circuit board on it, like aftermarket, but the plate it sits on has the common supplier "Ternstedt T" logo on the baseplate.

Is this normal for 65? Is it a aftermarket replacement pump? Has a little 8 pin IC and some kind of mini relay on the board, so it must be kind of new, but it was not connected. Weird. What is this thing?

Sorry for the mega image.

I'm presuming 65 is basically the same as my 70, and if so that looks like a replacement to me, and has no mechanical relationship between the motor and the washer pump (other than the 3 screws holding that to the motor chassis).

What if you unscrew the base of pump from the motor chassis? I suspect you'll just see a flat back of the washer pump.

You're probably right Clint, the entire unit is likely a replacement part, the black cover has multiple slots for different plugs.

Strange though, could the board be a intermittent controller in some form?

I would guess that's some sort of intermittent controller as you suspect Mark. That IC is likely a 555 timer.

I remember those washer pump kits. They fit standard or intermittent wipers. Our shop didnt sell many of this type because they were three times the price of the universal pumps. The only advantage was if the intermittent board was bad they were cheaper than the dealer part to fix the intermittent feature.

There was one of those on the green/gold 70 2+2 I bought. I took it off and put on an original pump, and I might have it kicking around here somewhere. I think they're still available at the parts stores.

In the case of this motor, the delay feature was never used. It's just the two terminals, power in, and power out to the pump itself.

I'm going to try to get that pump running. Funny thing is, someone had mounted one thats basically identical to the pump component shown, on the wheel house. It was dead as well, but I was able to resurrect that one after taking it apart and cleaning/lubing it. The mechanical pumps that come from the factory never stayed working very long did they?

I also want the wiper motor to look overall a little better than it does. So more detailing is in store.

The ones in both my 2+2's are still working after 50 years.   I put the small o-ring & valve kit (about $10-15) in a couple of my other cars to get them working.     I think I had one that still wouldn't work, the big o-ring on the piston was likely toast.
