Question about Fillers and Welds..

Hi Guys,

Just want to double check. So on my car I have found a spot where it was brass welded... if I grind and sand the rust around the area and brass. And later epoxy prime that area. Will metal to metal filler go bond over top? I heard not much will bond to brass. But wonder if epoxy primer and metal to metal filler would work?

Brass has always come back to haunt me if you cold store the car.

A body man told me years ago that the flux on the brazing rod was the problem. He used bronze that wasnt flux coated and said he never had a problem with adhesion. I also remember seeing a new front fender for a 1979 Lincoln town car and the nose portion of the fender was brazed from the factory. The complex shape wasnt able to be made in one piece.

That's what I'm assuming happened. Stored for so long it cracked all in that area. The weld is together. It's just the paint went around it. And flaked off.

So if I grind that area well. I'm wondering if the epoxy will do good. And apply metal filler opposed to fiberglass filler?

Maybe some kind of etching solution after cleaning, and before primer?
