Tire Size Help

I recently purchased a 1978 GM product with the original tires LR78 - 15 C, what would be the equivalent tire size today? Thanks..

That image above my reply is really good, but for futurte referance, it might help to also share how I believe that size decodes:

L = tread width
R = Radial Tire
78 = sidewall aspect ratio
(-)15 = 15" wheel size

I am unsure what to make of the "C"

Could the "C" be a load rating?

C is indeed the load rating. Most car tires are B, this car must be a station wagon or a car with heavy duty suspension.
