Can anyone recommend a decent pump for removing oil from small engines?

My generator (for example) is a real pain when it comes to changing the oil. The drain plug is in a bad spot and it's difficult to get a pan under it. Does anyone use one of those pumps where you stick the hose down the fill pipe to remove the old oil? Any recommendations? There's quite a few on Amazon-most with mixed reviews. I don't want to spend a ton of money on e one-say $30 or less.

Thanks

Todd

Yes, the Mityvac 7400.

Bought one for the Seadoo and our I/O boat. Good unit. Can be adapted for compressed air suction.

Todd I never got around to it but envisioned a 90 degree elbow installed in the block with 3 or 4 inch extensions away from the block with a pop cock tap to open for draining.

An old square brownie baking pan slides under my generator perfectly and holds all the oil easily. I just block up the opposite wheel 1 inch to help the drainage.

I'm wary of drain extensions past the frame of the generator ... an big ouch waiting to happen!

Mark- I saw that one but it's a bit over my budget however I see it's big enough that I wouldn't need to drain the oil in the car either..
I have used one of those dollar store tin foil baking pans with mixed results. I guess I should try a "real one" if I don't go the pump route. I seem to be accumulating a number of gas powered "toys" these days- Lawn tractor, generator, bush mower, push mower, tree chipper, snow blower, weed eater that a quick way to change the oil would be nice.

Google "Arnold syphon pumps". I think one of these should work - the price varies, so do a little searching and you might find one for less than $10. I expect it will be one of those 'you-get-what-you-pay-for' things, but if you're using a once or twice a year, it'd probably last decades...

Thanks. Home Depot has the Arnold Syphon Pumps for $11.95. I'll check it out.

There was a point of sale display at CTC the other night and my son and I entertained ourselves running this one for 10 minutes. the fluid in the display was probably coloured water but it worked very well and had a lot of punch.

That is a good one but if over budget I have one like this with a flexible hose on it that I use for draining my Bobcat oil. Also use it for filling my standard trans when you can't tip the container enough to get it to pour out!! Sucks and pushes

That's what I use to bleed brakes when the whole system is pretty much dry. I pull fluid to the back with that and then do a correct pressure style bleeding. Those suction guns are wonderful tools.

But I get it Todd, 100 bucks is kind of high. But the good thing about the mityvac, like you said, is it'll store quite a lot of oil until you want to dump it. Another good point is it comes with a few different diameter hoses. one small enough to reach down the dipstick tube. Takes a while for a draining, but it works and keeps things clean..
