A couple years ago I was taking some used oil to the local Firehall for recycling. Someone must have been cleaning out their grandpa's garage, as there were 5 or 6 cases of 70's & 80's vintage Quaker State, including a case in the cardboard cans that were leaking like crazy. I wonder how they would have fared in this test.

I was pulling for that old oil to do well, but man it kind of fell flat. No wonder sludge buildup was such an issue back then...it had zero detergents. All not unexpected really.

Funny colour too, kind of a gear oil kind of green. Pennsylvania crude I guess?

I'm a bit surprised that the modern oil has more zinc than the vintage. 581 new vs 509 vintage. And they keep saying the zinc has been removed from modern oil.

Yes, surprising results. That viscosity test is a real clincher.

That amazed and confused me as well. I have been buying zinc additives for both my flat tappet engines (261 six and 400 V-8). Now they are saying that modern oil has more zinc, what gives here. confuse

I wonder what zinc levels peaked at.
