Ford has a major headache with the Focus Transmission, and it's getting worse..

A big read if anyone is interested. I think it's disgusting, but not at all surprising with the historic behavior of (what was) the "big" 3.

Be sure to continue down after the article for much more, and many more links.

As much as I sleep eat breathe GM, I have to agree, they all seem to have gone this direction. Already 10 years ago when we were still a GM dealer I saw them thumb their noses at customers who clearly had a legitimate warranty claim, and they just didn't care.

This is one of those rare cases where I feel 100% sorry for the dealerships. I can only imagine the grief service managers must go through having to bull shi* the customer to support this garbage. Their hands must be pretty much tied, they had a completely defective product foisted on them by the corporation. Thing is, most people actually love the car itself, besides the trans it seems to be a well engineered car. They'd likely forgive this if the car could be made right.

Buy the cars back, or install a completely re-engineered and tested transmission in ALL the affected cars sold. How else are they going to put this behind them?

Stuff like this is some of the reasons why Toyota and Honda are doing so well.

I followed this story too Mark. It's a shame especially when you read how the engineers knew this transmission would cause problems but were afraid to speak up for fear it would jeopardize their careers.

Sad but true. I breathe, eat, sleep, and will die a Ford man. Though I have never owned a Focus, I will continue my life-long love affair with Ford knowing full well that all brands are guilty of comparable mismanagement. Unfortunately, as evidenced in this country all too often, taking responsibility for one's actions is a rarity.

In 1985 GM came out with the front wheel drive Olds 98. It featured the new 4 speed automatic transaxle. It had issues, to say the least. When our technicians from the dealership went to service school to learn about the new unit, the teacher there told the techs that the engineers at GM had dubbed it the "rolling grenade"..... It lived up to its name in those early years.

People laugh and say that I am anachronistic when I insist that my new cars have manual transmissions. It isn't easy these days. Never had a transmission problem ever. No DSG problems, no maintenance costs, no robot shifting as if it pretends to know what I'm thinking.
