Agree. I'd love to build a six, just for fun.  That's what I had in mind for the 261 from my old 62 Parisienne that I sold in 2010. Or maybe I should build the 250 I bought earlier this year. My bigger dilemma is what to put it in. I'm thinking maybe a 65-72 Nova/Acadian/Ventura. But as much as I'd like to, I don't see getting anymore cars in the foreseeable future.

My kind of jaded brother in law said the video should have been called "How to build a 300 dollar motor in a five million dollar shop" lol

I bought a very good running 250 for $75 and dropped $6000 into it. Of course custom rods, pistons & crank, lump-port head, roller rockers & associated machining to turn it into a 296 are no way towards a cheap build. I still need a suitable damper.

I hate to say it but for the money the Ford 300 is the bargain big-inch starting point. Almost a mirror image of the Chevy 292 but has no pushrod intrusion in the ports. The 240 can easily be upgraded to 300 while a low-deck Chevy 250 can't and the 292 is taller.

Todd, send your befuddled brother in law to the corner of the room and force him to hold his head down in shame. furiousconfusehmmdisbeliefnodohevileyebleh.

Cam, i am not trying to be a wise guy here but maybe you should trade your 292 for a 300 Ford then. Cheers.biggrin

The Chevy is more or less together already and long paid for. Next time.   Hey, maybe your brother could throw one into his Falcon idea.gif

No, my bro is into gas mileage. He has a wife and two "kids", one in college and one in university. It amazes me he even has this 62 Falcon considering his lot in life............. you know being living working slave to his family ("AL BUNDY"). That 300 Ford would never work into his retirement, because it might suck more fuel out of his retirement fund. Cheers.biggrin

Maybe I should buy a 300 Ford engine. But then I'd have to buy a Ford to put it in.

I had a Ford pickup with the 300. Those motors are bulletproof. Sadly the Mazda sourced 5 speeds bolted to them are crap.

The cam was broken in when he ran the engine, as was mentioned.

But the first thing he did when he got it started was idle it down and mention how it ran so smoothly at 500 rpm....that's not good. Or did I miss something here?

It was another video where he mentions that the cam was broken in. I do not think i am losing my mind. There is no way you could idle an engine with out breaking in the cam after the rebuild. confuse

Also, every cylinder had a crack. He said that 90% of these engines have cracks. They went ahead and rebuilt it. They filled the water jackets with some sort of epoxy and said while the cracks will eventually get worse, they figure it'd take years given the few miles they will put on this engine.
