Ebay experience

Ebay sent me a survey again asking how they are doing. In the comments section, this is what I told them.

"I keep answering this survey the same way but nothing seems to change. Please stop loading all kinds of unrelated crap when I search for a specific item. I just searched "66 Pontiac Speedometer" and one of the items that comes up is 87 Buick Grand National Speedometer Lens. And then it says "Fits 66 Pontiac". Seriously??? NO IT DOESN'T.      IF I WANT A GRAND NATIONAL SPEEDOMETER LENS I'LL SEARCH FOR IT BY NAME.....  Stuff like this is the reason myself and many car guys are moving away from Ebay and using other sources to find their parts."

I get tired of telling them the same thing over and over but they're asking, so I'm telling them. I know some guys who used to be diehards on ebay and they're long fed up with the mess it's become. I spend very little time on there now, used to browse it almost every day. Now I go there if I need something specific I can't find anywhere else.

Hi Carl I also have done multiple surveys for EVIL BAY and have noted in my responses the same issues as you. It is my belief that they don't give a sh-t as to what the surveys say, they just provide it to justify some requirement they are bound by LEGALLY. FYI I have added the word 'original to any query for a part and it removes some of the unrelated "crap". The Chinese ads are very annoing!!!!!

Agreed, the Chinese ads are about the worst. I know a guy can to "- fits" in the title and that helps but good grief, some of the crap that shows up has nothing at all to do with the search. The idea of using original is good, I'll have to try that one.

Similar experiences here. The number of unrelated things that pop up with " fits 66......" is working against them. Some cheap unrelated ad gets exposure and the user gets POed and doesn't come back. Net result good advertisers, honest buyers and eBay itself all loose.

Ebay has become so big that they don't care- as they don't have any "good competition" to keep them open and honest and restrict some of the additional sale pieces that "find there way" into legitimate requests!

I stopped using them and will likely cancel the eBay affiliation with Poncho in the new year.

I have no use for that club what so ever. It will be a very cold day in a August heat wave, when i use them for any reason.

That's part of the problem, but another part is that the supply of good parts appears to have dried up, at least on E-Bay. I bought a lot of stuff there up to 8 or 10 years ago, but not much since.

I've also observed the same issue at the big US flea markets like Carlisle and Charlotte. The stuff just does not seem to be out there anymore.

I've been an ebay member for over 20 years, I've never received a survey.

2009 2500 Suburban wiper motor & transmission my cost at local GM dealer $261 plus taxes. eBay price same factory GM part $98 $14 shipping $9 tax no charges at border. I am still a fan of eBay. eBay and PayPal tied to my US address so no problem with sellers. Any problem that may come up with a seller eBay and PayPal will refund my money. I agree good used parts are drying up but still plenty of repro parts and factory parts for my new vehicles to be had

I've switched to Amazon for a lot of stuff like that. I would say most times I've found better deals there, but you're right, sometimes Ebay is still the best deal.

For stuff like NOS pieces of course Ebay is still the source. Sometimes though I just can't be bothered to sort through all the crap that shows up in my search.

Ebay should stop trying to be like Amazon and go back to their core basics. It was so much better 20 years ago. It's hard to believe Ebay has been around since 1995!

I still use Ebay, but not for anything tangible for the car anymore.

I use it for things like a thermo couple to repair my mini fridge.

You can't beat paying $2.19 Canadian for a part and get free shipping.

O rings for a old sewing machine (3 for $2.50) was another item I got with free shipping.

Of course it comes from Hong Kong and I have to wait four weeks for it,

but for me it's a real good deal, and a good source to purchase small items.

Last time I got something worthwhile I remember the new Global Ebay shipping method

was too costly for what I paid for the stuff being shipped.

After that I didn't use Ebay unless the shipping was free

Exactly, that's a bit of a money grab. I bought something that was a couple of hundred miles away. They used "global shipping" and tacked on a bunch of fees, shipped it a total of about 2000 miles to get it here confuse

I've learned that if you use Ebay to "find" stuff. you also get

the name of the seller and by searching for the seller's internet site (if possible)

you can then buy the stuff from the seller's site and not through Ebay.

example...Chevy Gas Door Post Console Glove Box License Plate Ashtray Rubber Bumper Kit 3

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Chevy-Gas-Door-Post-Console-Glove-Box-License-Plate-Ashtray-Rubber-Bumper-Kit-3/372182652126?fits=Year%3A1963%7CMake%3AChevrolet&hash=item56a7d094de:g:M2QAAOSwySVaS-Mk&vxp=mtr

Seller information

99.7% Positive feedback
When looking at his ebay "store" turns out jcapartscom is Jurassic Classic Auto Parts...

A search on google of Jurassic Classic Auto Parts turns up  the site and purchases can be made without Ebay being in the picture.

This usually works for new merchandise, and not used....but not always.
