Just found this site that lists all the LEGO Technic sets ever made. All I can say is it's a good thing I'm not a collector! Some of these sets fetch big money (as I found out when scanning eBay..)
I never was into lego. According to this website I can see why. In 1977 I had other things on my mind ...

I have a very good buddy now 66 years old and he went through a number of years of being a Lego freakazoid. He is very well off, so he spent a ton of money and did not blink an eye. Now all his Lego junk just sits in the basement. I know each to his own but i would not spend a buck for his whole basement of this useless junk.

You can search old sets there, and even find all the pieces, and often download instructions for sets... I was able to rebuild my first space ship set I received as a kid after recieving my great aunts lego (we lived with them for a short spell when I was very young), and I was also able to determine exactly how many parts I am missing to rebuild some of our sets, after my brother was able to get "our" lego back from my cousins (my mom gave it away)...
