Sounds like a 1983 Corvette to me.

(43 made, 42 crushed. The 43rd is in Bowling Green)

Yes, it's a 260 Olds V8 and a very weak little 5 speed, but it's a pretty cool setup all the same. No power but those 260's were very good on fuel.

Cool but no performance factor at all. Just something different... I wouldn't say a piece of crap necessarily but nothing special as far as special interest cars go.

Defitely available:

It's a shame that GM didn't seem to understand their market in those days.  A stout 5-speed behind a 400 in the Ventura would have made for a desirable ride, but it took at least another decade for them to get that stuff sorted out, it seemed.

I've never had anything with a 260 before, but my impression was that it was a reliable engine, just a little underpowered due to its lack of cubic inches and being strangled for emissions like everything else from the era.

Those 5 speeds had a unique "Dog Leg" shift pattern.

Thanks

Interesting - like a 3-speed with 2 gears added on...

Figure that the o.d. 5th gear was introduced in the U.S. when 55-mph limits were nationwide. How were you ever supposed to use it back then without lugging? Cannonball run with radar detectors perhaps.
