Pay at the pump

I was at a Canadian Tire gas bar the other day and inserted my credit card into the pump. I selected the amount, entered my pin and the display showed begin fueling. I filled the car up and hung up the hose and was going to get a receipt from the pump. On the display it said please pay inside. If I hadnt wanted a receipt I would have driven away! I went in and paid and mentioned to the attendant that if I hadnt looked at the pump I would have driven off. I said that there wasnt a message on the pump saying my card had been declined. The attendant told me that on his display it showed chip error so he turned the pump on for me. I wonder how many people have driven off thinking that they have paid by credit card and end up with a visit from the police.

Paul

Keep an eye on your credit card statement to make sure you didn't get hit by some sort of card reader.

This has never happened to me but this is a very good point of something to look after for. Thanks for sharing.

Reminds me of a time filling up about 15 years ago when you still went into pay after you filled up. Pump meter barely turned as it filled and what should have been $75 cost me about $12. When I paid I said I think you should check pump 7 as it seems to be off on its pricing. Guy was cocky and told me that they get checked out and it would be correct. I promptly went home and brought my van back to fill up plus called a couple friends to tell them which pump to use. It worked for them too, first and last time Ive ever seen it.

I haven't been inside to pay in years. But I do always get the receipt before leaving.

Just another example of " you can never be too careful " especially in today's society.
