Sounded like a great lift for low ceilings, until I read the comments............

Looking at getting a lift that could raise the 63 Parisienne higher than 18 inches....this one sounded like a great possibility,

but apparently not for my Poncho. Low ceiling garage doesn't help, but that's what I have.......raising the car 4 feet would have been great

clearance to do the transmission work.

Anyone know of a lift or have any ideas on how to raise the car into a safe height for the transmission work to save my back?

"How does this work with 1962 Chevy impala.convertable X FRAMES???"

"I had a 64 Merc on my lift with no issues.

Curb weight is around 3600 lbs on your Impala so weight should not be an issue.

The X frame is going to be the issue.

The arms on the lift have great reach (Arm Reach (Min.): 27" Arm Reach (Max.): 40").

But you will need to have the columns very tight to the body to catch the rear frame.

This might not be the right lift for your vehicle."

George I have this exact hoist in my double portion of my garage as it too is a 9 ceiling. Have left the columns in place for as long as Ive had them as I park my pickup between them. We always back our vehicles into the garage so it leaves me complete access to my front doors. Can lift my convertible all the way up but my pickup only a couple feet for changing wheels and stuff. I had a custom length hose made up so I have the pump tucked out of the way. I have my little Econoline pickup on there now as Im replacing the rear frame rails. It has worked well for me as I do like the access to everything underneath with the 2 post and also having the wheels free.

I put additional supports under it as the height is in between the safety lock positions. Even when it is in the lock position I spend the extra minute and back it up, its just me.

Looks like a great unit Jerel, and  like you I would do the same support for added safety.

My only concern is with lifting the 1963  X frame.

The comment I posted from the video youtube mentions some issues with the X frame ......

I really don't want to squeeze the car body that close to the columns just to get under the rear of the frame....

Could the lift be under the rear axle to support the car instead of the rear frame?

Any thoughts on raising the x frame with this lift?

Thanks for the reply.

I just contacted  MaxJax  and ask the question about the X frame......looks like this lift is not for the X frame...

The front points for the arms of the lift are to be placed on the frame location below where the firewall would be.

The rear points of support would be about a foot after the the frame begins to branch out from the center.

Checking for proper lifting proceedure.

It may not work unless you dont mind going in and out of your windows.

The problem is the lift arms will not reach the center point of your car for the proper lift point.

...and yes I do mind it going in and out of my windows......I just washed them.

Im just reaching in at the back of the front wheels and at the front of the back wheels but even those sections do look abit narrower. Be curious to know the difference in width there. Might not be that much.

Is there a way to build a "box frame jig" to sit under the X-frame so the lift will work safely ... just throwing an idea out there.

The 64 Pontiac Convertible from Calgary that Darryl posted today  looks like it's sitting on a 2 pillar lift that's

at the right frame positions for an X frame.....

That looks like its reaching in 10-12 inches further than for my frame. Im guessing I may be a few inches short when stretched out. Thinking my columns are about 8-10 inches wider on each side when I park my truck between. Will check when I get back.

Just a thought. Could you not fab up a strong support "bridge" between the 4 lifting arms.

Mark, there are so many 2 posters units made by many companies out there for sale, it's a matter of finding the best one(s)  for the X frame first.

And I agree then a "bridge " could  be built for added support.

I'v sent an email to the guy that is selling the 64 convertible asking if he can tell me the brand

of the 2 posters unit he is using....hopefully he does.
