For this pile of complete garbage, it amazes me that they would even care about the fit of the car. After all it is one of the worst cars ever built in the history of the automotive age. I give these guys here an A for effort for trying to polish this turdmobile. .

Long stroke, they were maybe competitive, with cars built around 1905?

As a product of government-controlled communist East Germany, it's hard to put the cars in any real context that we can relate to. They may be junk to us, but I suspect they were extremely valuable to those lucky enough to be able to actually own a car in the old GDR...
From wikipedia:
Being that its manufacturer was a state monopoly, it took ten years to acquire a Trabant.[10] East German buyers were placed on a waiting-list of up to thirteen years.[11] The waiting time depended on their proximity to Berlin, the capital.[6] Official stateprice was 7,450 GDR marks and the demand to production ratio was forty three to one (1989). The free market price for a second-hand one was more than twice the price of a new one, and the average worker had to wait ten to thirteen years on a waiting list, or, if available, pay more than double for a second hand model.

Those poor people, my heart goes out to them then.

Exactly.
It's would be akin to North Korea building a car.

I wouldn't doubt that some of this goes on during the night-shift at the Big Three.

A 2x4 was often used at the dealership to make adjustments (allegedly ). Remember the Lumina?....
Ya, they used to "massage" misalignments at the F**d dealership I used to work at (car jockey at age 17).

Reminds me of installing off shore fenders and doors on pickups in the eighties. I remember that the passenger side always fit like crap, drivers side not as bad. Paul
I wonder if anyone has ever built a drag version or a pro street version of this sad car. Now imagine this car tubbed out and jammed with big block Chevy. Should be a real hairy ride with that short wheel base.
