Ah Tonkas! They had Tiny Tonkas, Mini Tonkas, regular Tonkas & Mighty Tonkas. My friends & I spent many hours on "construction projects" in our mother's gardens using Tonkas.

The first Tiny Tonka I had was the little red pickup that was like the contemporary Dodge A100 & Ford Econoline pickups that were in production at the time (this was in the mid to late 60s). Next came the construction set with a gooseneck trailer & bulldozer, a dump truck, a bottom dump & a cement mixer.

Around 69/70 Tonka branched into Crazy A's, a series of Model A based hot rods. I had a hemi orange with black fenders Model A sedan with skinnys up front & steam roller tires out back. Next was a Model A phaeton in Sublime Green with black fenders. A friend had a Mighty Tonka crane which was a whopping $30 back in 1972. His mother wasn't pleased when he traded it with a friend for a Corgi Toy Unimog.

I had a bunch of old Tonka, Matchbox & Corgitoy brochures but they got tossed when I moved out (as I later discovered). It would have been neat to have around right now.

Some of the Mini Tonka & regular Tonka trucks were based loosely on the 1960's Ford Turbine Truck. Chevy also had a Turbo Titan II around 1965 that you can see traces of in a Tonka.

I am entering a Tonka Mini Wrecker from '69-'71 in mint condition in a online auction in a week's time.

Here's something I bought really cheap a few weeks ago. It will be a wall-hanger in my work shed:

I had one of those Dune Buggies. I think it was the same colour too.
