RE: Does anyone make scale models or their cars?

The glue should be applied to teh bare styrene, even rough the styrene first to allow the glue to melt the parts together.  Most kids tried to use the glue over paint or over the chrome parts, and thus never stuck.  When i build, i scrape the parts bare where the glue goes,  then it holds.  I also really like the testors liquid in the square bottle, it melts the hell out of the plastic and never comes apart.  all the instant bond model glues work great too nowadays.

To do an extended cab, you will need too buy the 1994 promo model, probably off ebay, there are tones of them,  you will have to cut off the hood, but its easy, and the inner fenders are all there already.  the promo also has the aluminum wheels and really nice goodyear tires, way nicer than the kits.

Any chance you have a spare 1961 truck with the 8 foot box?  the new kit only has a shortbox.  just looking for the longbox part.

I actually believe I may have a box and body. It would need the shortbox kit to complete.

The small collection I have are the dealer's promo cars.

I have always wanted a 69 Bonneville.

Yesterday I decided to bid on eBay a modest $60 bucks for one.

Went to bed thinking I was silly.

Those 88-94 truck kits are OK, but lack a ton of detail.  If you do get into building one, i have lots of spare decals for all the emblems, and the headlights, even dash clusters and the tailgate emblems.  The headlights are the worst, moulded into the grill.  I also have lots of parts kits from them too.  just ask if you need anything.

Question,  where did you get the dogdish for the 64 wagon?  i am building a 61 pontiac Laurentian bubbletop got to make it canadian using parts from a 1962 impala kit and a Mobius 1961 american pointiac.  going to be a 261 with a 3 speed too.

Very good to know. I built a 454 when i was younger. I have a dully kit that I am thinking of building into a ramp style tow truck. I want build the short box extended cap version like you with the nice aluminum wheels they had back in the day. I am also looking for someone who has made a resin body so I can make a mini version of my suburban.

I used the dog dishes from the AMT 62 Catalina

The camper van, I found on eBay. I had to build the top part from sheet styrene. We used to go to a hobby shop in Hamilton when we went to the Ancaster swap meets. I was closer then than now, lived in Georgetown mowt of my life.
The plow truck is one that I built as a copy of a truck I built, was a Ford pickup on a Blazer frame, that's why it's so short.

Very nice work.  kitbashing to build an exact replica of a real car is so cool,  it forces you to add details that would normally be missed.

I did a very extensive 91 truck to match my dads(which i still own).  Got every detail that the real one has,  running boards, kitbashed to a ext cab shortbox, even a KPH speedo, trailer hitch, trailer brakes, and all the scratch built decals and parts like bumper guards, air conditioning compressor, the list could go on for hours, was about a 4 year project

 WOW.

that's all I can say...

WOW!

I agree the promo models are getting really pricey.
I started and gave up ages ago making a replica of my Firebird...
I have a couple boxes of car and airplane models that I may get to some day...
Or maybe one of my kids will pick up the interest.

If anyone knows of a source for a 65 chevelle convertible, I'd love to try one.

I think you would need to get the Revell kit and cut the top off.

Not sure where to post this, but since it's about model cars I figured this would be the best spot!  On one of the modelbuilders message boards that I read, somebody made a model of a '55 Pontiac sedan delivery much like our feature car of this month.  It involves a lot of work and modeling skills - way above my level for sure.  Thought that others might find it interesting as well! This same builder also did a '57 that I posted here some time ago.

Click on the link below to see the entire post (including build details):

http://wwwboard2.spotlighthobbies.com/cgi-bin/bbs62x/webbbs_config.pl?md=read;id=270403

Text from the post:

"Ive just completed this stock 55 Pontiac Pathfinder sedan delivery using a toy low-rider 57 Chevy wagon as the main starting material, and the basic front trim and dash-board was in my parts bin from an FM American 55 Pontiac on which the body had self-destructed from a bad batch of metal alloy
All of Pontiacs production sedan deliveries from 54 until 58, were built only in Oshawa, Ontario, and like the other Canadian Pontiacs at that time, were built on a Chevy platform. Compared to the American 55 Pontiacs, the Canadian Pontiacs were shorter (Chevy chassis and drivetrains), and although they had similar front end trim, the shortened fenders had a different wheel opening shape, a shorter and narrower engine hood (to clear the higher available six cylinder motor) with a slightly more blunt nose. The front bumpers, while similar in appearance, had a shorter side length.
This is the third detailed sedan delivery that Ive built in the last three years, using similar techniques and although theyve all been time consuming builds, at least the build plan was familiar, and most of the research had been done.in this case, I also had reference to an unrestored full size version which was somewhat rough, but I was able to photograph lots of details which had been questions on my mind.
The main paint is Automotive basecoat/clearcoat to approximate Pontiac's Bolero Red"
