March 2020 Feature Car

We've got another rare Poncho as our feature for March and what a cool car it is! Eddy Dixon is the proud owner of this 1955 Pontiac Sedan Delivery. Eddy hails from the Yukon and judging by the condition of this '55 the climate there is very friendly to old cars! Eddy tells us more:

frontsmall.jpg

"Here is the story on this Sedan Delivery as far as I know. Andy (now my father inlaw) recoverd this car in the bush up in Whitehorse Yukon back in 1984. When he brought it home it was fairly complete but in need of alot of attention.

20200215_142324.jpg

This was an original six cylinder car. I was only twelve at the time. I didn't even know who Andy was! I had no idea about the car or that I'd some day marry his daughter. I've  been with my wife for 22 years now.

20200215_142347.jpg

Just this winter I received a phone call from Andy. A few minutes into our conversation he said "The car is yours". I instantly thought "What car??". He has a pretty good collection of them. He explained that since I helped him work on it over the years and showed the same love of cars as him that the time had come for him to pass on the Poncho to me. It was the 1955 Pontiac Sedan Delivery.

Here is some info on the Sedan: He had it repainted over thirty years ago.  It's definitely  showing  its age though. It has an early 327 with newer heads from 1967 or '68. It has a mild cam, Edelbrock intake with a stock 4 barrel carburetor, a 4 spd manual tranny, and disc brakes up front. It has the stock rear drum brakes and differential.

20200215_135805.jpg

It has been babied, driven, and waxed alot since 1984! I'm  going to keep the body the way it is for now since it still looks pretty damn nice given how old she is.

20200215_142452.jpg

I know at this point it's way too expensive for me as a family man to throw a whack of money at it for body and paint. It still needs some love here and there.

20200215_142036.jpg

In the near future I'd like to install a new carburetor, and maybe an engine dress up kit. She needs new shoes too. I was thinking a nice set of BFG tires.  I would also like to change the mufflers to grab a little more of an aggressive sound and let that 327 breath  a little better. 20200215_142015.jpg

20200215_142621.jpg

The interior will need a headliner one day. I think the list could go on and on! For now I consider myself to be a pretty lucky guy to have such a cool ride. I can't wait 'till Spring time!!!!

Yeah  I think I'm pretty  lucky  to have her. Sometimes  I can just sit back and admire  the look of her.  When you look at any old

Vehicle a person  just gets  sucked  into the art design and passion  that went in to building vehicles. Just seems  everything these  days from toys  to appliances to cars ,are just punched  out with no attention  to details. Thanks  for your  feedback..

My buddy in Calgary here has one of those sitting in the alley rotting away now for about 18 years. Back when I was building my '68 Acadian I gave him the 307 out of it and he cleaned it up and painted Chevy orange. I swear to this day that engine still looks wet!!! I also gave him one of my then 10 ST-10's for the wagon and it's still sitting on the floor. He has so many projects on the go and one foot in the grave-so to speak- that he'll never get all of them done. He's had the same '34 Chevy sedan that he's been building now for over 50 years. A model T pick up in his yard, 3 El Camino's. I keep telling him to finish the '34 as it's the neatest car he has.

The drivetrain for the '34 is a Tuned Port 350SB that's been polished as well as the tranny. The rest of the drivetrain is all C4 'Vette.

I keep telling him to donate one to me and I'll jump right on it and get it on the road. Life is way too short.......

Going to enjoy signing in every day during March and seeing your sedan delivery at the top of the page.
It's something just a little bit different from what the rest of us have and that makes it distinctive and special.

A real beauty no doubt. I have always loved these very rare sedan deliveries and have seen a number of the Chevy variants over the years but have only seen a 57 Pontiac version personally. I remember hearing back in the 1970's that many Pontiac sedan deliveries from 1955 and 1956 were converted to 1955 Chev sedan deliveries. I am sure glad that your beauty was never converted to a Chevy. Love your ride and keep on riding. Cheers.

Beautiful 55, 55s are rare, let alone a sedan delivery. And a 327 4 speed really suits it.

Eddy, did you get the GM Vintage Vehicle Services documentation on your 55? It'd be interesting to see how many were built.
