1971 Parisienne. Thetford Mines Kijiji

Kind of forlorn looking, in the dirt, but it's a 400. Would that be Pontiac or Chevrolet in 71?

The ad indicates 400 Blue, so I'm guessing a Pontiac 400. Those cars were built to accept either a Chevy or Pontiac engine, and had provisions on both sides of the engine compartment to mount the battery. (L for Pontiac / blue block, R for Chevy / orange block).

1971's had the kind of cool looking vents on top of the trunk lid.

Surprised it's not advertised as a "grange trouver" (that's "barn find" translated by google...).

Now George, we aren't supposed to comment about how much people ask for their cars, right?  aww

LOL... I know... just want to be fair about it.  I've been curbing my opinions for fear that I may offend someone... smile

Is that a Canadian Pontiac, even in '71? Weren't we getting the American Pontiacs by then, or were ours still unique for a few years?

Well the Parisienne was built and sold in Canada from 1958 through 1986, so that makes it Canadian in my book. In a reverse play the car was also sold in the USA from 1983-1986 when the Americans had decided to eliminate the Bonneville and ended up regretting that.

The line up included both Canadian and American models for 1971... and other years, so it's a little confusing, but basically to answer your question, yes.

This engine chart posted by MC is a very good resource from a couple of standpoints. First it  shows clearly the relationship between Gross and Net Horsepower and the fact that the change in measurement had a lot to do with what  was perceived as low horsepower engines through the 70's. Next we see that only two Chevrolet engines were offered in 1971, the 250 six and the 350 2BBL 8.5:1 compression ratio. We also get the information that the Safari and Laurentian wagon  with auto got the Chevy 350 as did Laurentian, Catalina and Parisienne sedans, While the Catalina convertible was likely from USA with the blue 350 and Safari and Laurentian with manual also got the blue 350.
