Ontario members, do you think attendance at the spring swap meets and car shows will be affected? Appreciate feedback.

I had planned to do a little swap meet touring in April and May in Ontario and bordering US states. I have abandoned the idea of going to the US for now; in light of these development I'm trying to trying to decide if I will stay home this year or make the trip just to Ontario.

John, i go to countless vintage car meets in the southern Ontario area. There is no way Corona thing this is stopping me from going to meets and scoping vintage cars out but it will stop me from talking to car owners. At this point there is no way to know if they are going to cancel some of these meets. Only time will tell. I have been looking forward to the car meets starting in early May and i am going, if the meets are to be had. If you do come to Ontario and check out some vintage car meets, please say hello if you see either one of my oldies. My 57 Poncho or my 74 Chevy. Cheers.

George, thanks for your take on this. I'm going to monitor the situation and decide later. I love the shows and swap meets in Ontario, but if this thing is widespread the swap meets may have to be avoided.

I was told a couple days ago the cruise companies are going to have a tough time finding space to park all these ships. Typically most of them are out and about around the world but if they all end up in various ports they take up a lot of pier space.

Our first "direct hit" due to the virus. My wife works from home as a bookkeeper. Her main client (a contractor) let her know he's shutting down the business for the foreseeable future. One of his major customers is stuck in Iran! That's a pretty good hit to our household income.

Hey,

There is no "Total recovered" for all of China but if you click on each city, there has been a dramatic change is the recovery numbers.

This is a very positive development that the reporters are not talking about.

Some Chinese cities now have no active cases.

It will be a tough April but it will be worth it.

I just read a news story stating China had 20 new cases today in comparison to 1000's per day at the peak. That certainly is optimistic.

One of the first and biggest outdoor swap meets of the year is in Ancaster 2 weeks from today-it is usually either raining-or snowing or nice but cold-will be curious if this still goes on-there is another one there a month later-but many of us that have spring fever and would like to go-but in the big picture we need to keep everyone healthy!
Keep on Cruising!

Its very clear that these events should  not proceed. Effective Friday March 13, 2020  Ontario's chief medical officer of health is recommending the immediate suspension of all large events and public gatherings of over 250 people due to COVID-19.

In his statement, Dr. David Williams says organizers of smaller gatherings should consult with their local public health unit.

He says all Ontarians should practice social distancing as much as possible to manage the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Thanks guys.  I think that answers the question for the next 2-4 months for sure, if not longer.

I found a great local news story about a woman who used to live about 25 miles from me in Manitoba. She now lives in a city of 8 million in China, very close to where this all began.

Here is part of that news story-

Still busy in my vocation. I'm getting bombarded with purchase orders for honey today. Another producer called me and said he can't keep up with the demand.

My route to work passes the Moss Park Armoury in Toronto on Queen Street, just a few blocks actually from Yonge Street, the Big Department Stores and Eaton Centre, Dundas Square, Financial District and City Hall. The street was deserted this morning which likely gave me an opportunity to gawk at the armoury as I drove past. Just my observation but a fleet of troop carriers was staged two wide and very deep in the long driveway appearing ready to roll onto Queen Street. It was quiet there otherwise. Not sure what the Prime Minister has to say at 1:00 pm but that sight gave me a few goose bumps as I drove past. Its not normal and hard to miss.

Just got out of shower getting ready for a Dentist appt at 3.00 PM and took a call from the dentist office cancelling my appt. I explained that I had just got out of the shower getting freshened up for my dental filling. She said will call later for a rescheduled appointment Dont you just hate going to the dentist?

I think this will become the norm for a while. Even the President of the US just said at a press briefing that this could go on until July, August or even later.

He seems to have had an epiphany in the last 24 hours in that he's acknowledging this is real and serious.

Understand a show in Woodstock was cancelled yesterday due to the virus.  Hope the one on April 12 (Easter Sunday) will be still on as I have a lot of stuff I would like to sell after hoarding for many years.  Bob.

Bob, are you sure that you want to take a chance. Being in a tight room with hundreds of folks, coughing, sneezing and just plain talking in your direction. Folks our age are far more prone to getting the virus and more damage as a result. Bob, you might want to reconsider my friend. Stay healthy today so you can enjoy vintage cars another day. Cheers.

I remember something similar when Mayor Lastman brought in the troops to clear the streets of snow way back when.

Thanks for the kind advice and yes I will only go if the virus has shown signs of dissipating.  However the way things look currently the swap meet will most likely be canceled as our top health officials are recommending that publice gatherings should not exceed fifty people.  Bob.

Ford just declared a state of emergency in Ontario. It is now time for all Canadians to do their part and stay isolated to prevent a further rise in this nasty virus.

All restaurants and bars now closed on PEI. Take out is still allowed. Now if the liquor stores close here all hell will break loose!
While on my deliveries today I talked to one trucker who said many highway rest spots are closing. Where are these truckers supposed to go to use the washroom?
