For those that need by the hour Covid 19 updates, here's your Covid bad news Dashboard.

They just announced all PEI liquor and cannabis stores closing tomorrow at 2pm. It's complete mayhem right now at these stores. Lined up out the door. RCMP doing crowd control. In fact they announced all non-essential businesses must close.
My son in Ontario just got laid off until at least April 10. He said the Unemployment website is jammed and he can't connect.

I view it as a positive way of thinking about the future, rather than blowing your wad on toilet paper? Nice to see some optimists around, joining us old cars guys? You have to be an optimist to own an old car.

In my case you get paid, City shut down our operations on March 13th. Made the decision to pay employees anyway last night, that's $255,000 every two weeks for not being at work. I can only do that twice before our future as an organization is in jeopardy. So far Fed says we qualify for $25,000 relief payment by reducing our next remittance to CRA.

When I look at the coronavirus dashboard, here's what I see:

Total Confirmed: 127,749

Total Deaths: 4,717

Total Recovered: 68,307

Since I posted the above on Thursday morning (a day and a half ago), the numbers have jumped to:

Total Confirmed: 145,369

Total Deaths: 5,429

Total Recovered: 71,694

That's 17,620 new reported cases worldwide in the past day and a half.  3387 have recovered since then and there have been 712 deaths.

Here are some sobering numbers - that last post was just 9 days ago, and currently the world totals are:

Total Confirmed: 381,499

Total Deaths: 16,557

Total Recovered: 101,794

So 236,130 new cases in the last 9 days.  Total cases increased 262% in the last 9 days.

11,128 deaths in the last 9 days.  Deaths increased 305% (tripled!) in that period.

30,100 have recovered in the last 9 days, about a 30% increase in recoveries over the last 9 days.

People are becoming infected and dying much more quickly than people are recovering, which is to say that this thing is still on the increase, IMHO it has not even come close to peaking yet.

Big worry is that hospitals and medical staff will become so overwhelmed that even people who need treatment for serious non COVID-19 conditions (including trauma from accidents, etc.) will probably not be able to all have adequate treatment.  Scary stuff.

I hear the US may want to reopen after 15 days, another 5 or 10 days and they are back to work? Wonder if that will happen judging by whats happening in NY.

Wishful and hopeful thinking on his part?

I think (but really hope not) that the USA will make China's outbreak look relatively mild. Their citizens on a whole, simply will never be willingly "Controlled" like China did with there own.

We might be a little better, but only by virtue of our smaller population.

A lot of locals here in PEI aren't sticking to the social isolating rules. Perhaps we need to do what Italy is doing:

These Mayors get it!

If we have ANY hope to see this plateau along with declining new numbers in 3 weeks, we need to stay the hell away from each other. I could scream.

There is no other way. NO   OTHER   WAY.

Tougher measures against our local dimwits will unfortunately (or fortunately) be needed Todd. And I'm pretty sure they are coming. Stay tuned...

Yes! One italian mayor threatened to send out police with flamethrowers.
No goofing around there. Yet, here you see videos on news saying kids going out for March break, taking it as a joke, drinking and partying in large gatherings over the break...

For the most part, disappointingly, it seems to be the Millennial's not taking this too seriously.

Why? I thought they would be more "attuned" to this kind of thing.

Dangerous and foolish rhetoric trying placate the U.S. economy and put money as a higher priority than human lives. I wonder how many Americans will buy into this and let their guard down?no

Yes, there are real winners out there!

PEI announced fines of up to 10Gs for repeat offenders, and they now have a "snitch line" in place.

Interesting Macleans article on an escape from Florida, and the differences between Canada and the USA in these unsure times.
