Looked at a couple oldies for sale in Riverside yesterday.

One of the guys I play hockey with down here got a line of a fellow down sizing so we popped into Riverside in the morning to see what he had. Nicest was a 64 Caddy which hed had for over 20 years. He had bought it from the guy who had developed Armor All.  Asking 60g for it. Full load, auto dimming lights, cruise control, and a/c being some of them.

I assume that's a Starfire behind it?

That Caddy looks sharp!

Heres a 62 Starfire. Isnt perfect but again a fully loaded car. Power seats and again a/c plus the usual. Completely rebuilt original engine with an upgraded tranny and asking 15g. Good value in my opinion.

This one sadly Im thinking will be headed to the crusher as I dont see any market for them. This generation is disappearing.

Also had some high end cars like a Porsche in the 700g. range that we didnt waste his time on. His favourites were the 40 Fords and had a collection of them burn up in the early 90s. This guy was a dentist who was a true car guy. He knows his stuff and on a wide range of cars. This picture is the collection he lost

 Nice iron!

I don't suppose you're serious about the crusher claim, but it has to be worth something to somebody.  Heck, have him give it to me and I'll pay shipping and duties to bring it home!  Who wouldn't want a Caddy from the "Standard of the World" era?  biggrin

The James Dean Mercurys (this looks just like the one in Rebel Without A Cause) are still hot, especially among customizers who would probably be drooling to cut this one up.  Though I prefer it just as it sits.

That Starfire sure is nice, even if it would likely be 30k to get it to Canada, it would still be a very unique car up here.

That's for sure. I like it better than the beautiful Caddy.

All nice cars.

All are nice for sure. The Starfire came with a chambered exhaust system that gave that 394 a real authoritative rumble. Not a fan of the Jetaway trans though, but it did it's job.

I can't believe those 1940 Fords & Mercurys are all gone. That '40 Mercury Phaeton was super rare.

It is funny to think that most people thing Ford when they hear of a 390 or a 429, but Cadillac had both at one time or another. That gorgeous '64 would have a 429.

Jerel, you can't be serious about the fate of that late 40's Caddy sedan? I'd happily drive that thing. Sadly, long-term perhaps you are right. Not many people learning old technology, or how to drive it and maintain it.

Yeah it was just an opinion and nothing more about the fate of the old Caddy but from what Ive seen lately with my little eyes I dont see any desire for them no matter what the price. Not trying to insult anyone on here who may have one sitting in their garage.

I sold a 52 caddy 4 door a couple of years ago for a family friend, her dad bought it new. It had power windows, they were hydraulic with brake fluid. They are a cool car but Im not a fan of Cadillac. I got kicked off a Cadillac forum site by members who searched me out and found out my screen name was not my real name. I offered to give the moderator my real name, but that wasnt acceptable. i am a bit paranoid about having my real name, DOB, etc out there on the web for scammers to enjoy.

I like that Olds too.

Hey Jerel, I suspect your opinion is correct.  I have a buddy with a '48 Plymouth and a '53 Olds, both 4-doors that are basically solid complete cars but need work to get them on the road.  The Plymouth was an original PEI car that wasn't rusty, had been painted sometime in the late sixties or early seventies and presented well.  He felt lucky to get $1500 for it.

The Olds is one he drug home from the prairies, basically solid with some surface rust showing, seized engine from not being run for a couple of decades, etc.  Not a peach, but one that could be put on the road and driven as is with some work (maybe an engine rebuild).  Last I heard he was asking $1500 but had no bites.  He will likely have to practically give it away.

The Caddy you showed looks pristine in the pics.  I'm sure he will be able to find a buyer for it, but it will not be anywhere near muscle car money.  Probably not used car money.  There is still a following for cars of this era, but mostly people who want to turn them into mild customs, I understand, and not stock restored/original vehicles.

Thanks for posting them.  It's nice to see what's lurking in California garages... smile

I hope not. It's a beautiful car and the 4 doors don't detract from it in my opinion. I hope someone keeps it and gives it the care it deserves.

So in saying that do you think someone would step up and pay 5-15 US for it.  I never asked what their asking price was on it.

Have him list them on Bring a Trailer. Judging by the condition I think he'd do well with them on there.

eg; https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1951-cadillac-62-2/

I think there is still a market out there, it's just not as big as the muscle car market for example.

A quick search reveals a couple of 'sold' ones on ebay:  https://www.ebay.ca/sch/Cars-Trucks/6001/i.html?_from=R40&Model%2520Year=1949%7C1948&_dcat=5347&_nkw=cadillac&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

Might not be as easy to sell as the mid fifties and up cars, but definitely worth more than scrap value, if that means anything.
