Good day of driving. Almost all Canadian plates on the road down south.

Well its an early exodus for most of us Canadians down south and as I start  my trek back Im guessing two thirds of the plates I saw were Canadian. I drove a little over 1400 kilometres today in 13 hours with 3 gas fills and a sandwich and a McDonalds snack. About 12 hours driving time, nice finishing off the last 2 hours up into Boise with an 80 mph speed limit. 1000 kilometres or so tomorrow and should be ready for the 2 week quarantine.

When we returned our rental car to the Mesa Az airport today there was a lot of Manitoba plates at the door, snowbirds dropping off friends and family for the flight home. The plane that came from Winnipeg to pick us up had a grand total of 4 passengers, 2 US citizens returning home and 2 Canadians heading to Arizona (for the life of me, I can't figure out why they would unless they had a family emergency to attend to)

Think Government is going to have to make 2 week Isolation mandatory as a lot of people in my area coming back are NOT doing it!!!!

Yes, a Canadian who shows up at the Canadian border will not be refused entry, even if he's sick (in which case he would be taken directly into health care).

Just came across after a 21 hour straight through drive from Madeira Beach Florida. A lot of Ontario plates seen, but interestingly a ton of Quebec campers and motor homes seen. Pulling up stakes after learning their insurance was about to lapse?

20 seconds, about three questions with a covid printout handed over at an empty border crossing and we were home.

Friday night, and there was not a single car heading into the USA the other way. Only commercial gates open. Very unsettling looking.

And welcome to our world too! Day 1 today.

I think I'm gonna start work on a few things on my old car tomorrow.

After supper tonight my wife and I went for a drive. Windows up,got into our truck inside the garage, never even opened a window on the truck while we were out, drove back in the garage, closed the door and got out. Walked into the house and my phone was alerting. The couple next door are good friends, they both work at the local hospital. The text says "tsk, tsk, you guys went out grocery shopping? I thought you'd do better than that..." I had to explain that we had interaction with nobody and nothing anyone else would touch, just a cabin fever reliever drive out in the country.

So a little easier today with 11 hours and a little over a 1000 klics, seemed to go by pretty quick. Lots more Canadian plates on the way. Same as Mark, a quick hello and a piece of paper to help you plan your next 2 weeks. My time gets split up as a family had rented our house so they could do a reno in theirs so have taken up on my son's acreage where he has a nice little separate suite from their house. Probably one week here and hopefully I can replace the roof on their house and then second week I want to put my power top on my old car. All good, we have to do our part and get this thing slowed down. Poor Italians are loosing 20% of those infected over 70 years of age.

Yes, if we can do our part I think we can enjoy a lot better success rate than other parts of the world. It's just sad that they have to pay the price and we benefit from the knowledge they pass along to us.

Quebec/Florida snowbirds. Half of Quebec has been doing this trek for decades.

My parents used to go to Daytona and would overhear SO much french being spoken. My Mom, being bilingual, got to brush-up on her french during an American vacation.confuse

Yeah, I've heard stories of people reporting those whom they know were out of the country and didn't self-isolate.  Unfortunately others don't know that you were being responsible, so the optics are bad on it.  Another thing is, what if you have car trouble - if you have to get towed you would put yourself in a situation where you have to be in contact with others.

But I get the cabin fever thing.  I haven't been out of the country nor have I been in contact with anybody who is sick.  Been working from home since Tuesday and voluntarily staying home as much as possible to do my part.  Even then you get tired of being inside all the time.

Stay healthy and safe everyone!

I had the car trouble one figured out too! Call our son or son in law to come with a tow rope, pull us home and leave. We don't even have to be close to them.

Good for you Bob, close to freedom. Im trying to find some jobs at the kids place where they wont be in contact for awhile. Theyve got a couple fallen trees to buck up and a small barn to repair that the tree hit so hopefully I can find something to do. Will take a couple days to do year end too. Otherwise the honey moon continues!

Glad everyone is making it home safe and practicing the self quarantining recommendations, if everyone does their part it will certainly help.

Regarding going out for a drive, I personally see nothing wrong with this if you are not interacting with anyone. We dont need to self quarantine but its one of the few get out of the house activities we can do together and my SN son gets anxiety if we dont get out and about once in a while. Even if you had to get fuel you could wipe down the pump handle and be safe to you and others.

Now if you needed food I guess if youre able/into the food delivery service you could do that or alternately ask a friend/family member to drop at your door? The issue with the former is here people are having to wait a couple days to get their deliveries as the system is being overwhelmed with new requests for this service.

Regardless stay safe everyone!
