I really think if it comes to the the economy is going to have to be halted- no rent payments due, no mortgage/credit card payments due etc. Just have to buy food and fuel. Maybe even a break on electricity and in this day and age you really need internet. I don't know if this is possible but I can't see how most people will be able to survive any other way.

No cases up here yet. It's not if its when. I'm going to be as kind and helpful to people in need up here when the time comes. I'm thinking the same as Todd , there needs to be a big break from food, money, heat, hydro, rent, mortgages, this is a time when people from all walks of life need to think about coming together.

Seriously distance, isolate and lockdown starting now, spread that estimated 60% infection rate over a longer period allowing more of the critical to be properly treated. End up with a better result.

Or don't, and create a burned out and overwhelmed medical system, maybe treating at best about 10% of the seriously ill. Leave those loosing the triage lottery to their fate.

I don't see any reasonably logical choice at this point. It's likely the infection rate is going to pretty high regardless.

I suspect the forecasts assume the same number of infections regardless of the rate of infection. Maybe even higher with a slower rate. But the number of deaths is going to come down to how many beds & respirators there are compared to the number of active cases.

Over 6 months of everyone staying home wont work. I cant imagine that Canada nor the USA could borrow enough money to finance that.  Especially since China is the biggest buyer of US debt and from what Ive read, it seems someone in the USA is just trying to blame all this on the Chinese.  Sorry - maybe getting too political.

Taiwan managed to get through it without shutting down. We need to learn from them.

Many people still aren't heeding the warnings. A friend of mine was pumping gas in Charlottetown yesterday and overheard a woman at the next pump on her cell phone saying she just got back from Florida and was running a few errands. Being the not-so-shy guy that he is (retired cop) he told her in no uncertain terms what "self isolation" meant.
A friend of mine is still going down to the local auto repair shop every day to mingle with the other customers! Says he can't stand being home. He's 67 years old and judging by the many colds he's had this year I'd say his immune system isn't great. Another friend said they were at Superstore and noticed their neighbors who had just returned from Cuba in the store shopping.
These are the people who are going to make us sick.

Yes Todd, I agree with you.  There's too much selfishness out there, people thinking that they are special apparently.  Either that or they are dumb as a stump and don't know that self isolation means that you stay home, period.  But for some reason a lot of folks don't seem to have enough self control to abide by the rules.  I don't really understand why, when you have just returned from a trip, it would be so hard to just stay home anyhow.  Do some reading, watch some movies, do some research on the internet, learn to play a musical instrument, take care of some projects around the house that you hadn't had time to do, etc. etc., there's always something to do, and no excuse for boredom.  Miss your social contact? Call people, do facetime, write emails, etc...  But no, there seems to be a lot of "it won't affect me" attitude out there.

There was an interesting story on the news last night, that half the COVID-19 cases in South Korea were traced back to one individual who went to a hotel buffet and a religious gathering when he was sick.  ONE HALF OF ALL THE CASES IN AN ENTIRE COUNTRY started by one person.

Be safe out there everybody, and realize that you are not only acting for yourself, you are protecting everybody if you follow the rules - just do your small part.  Geez I hate to sound preachy, but this is really friggin important!

All very excellent points here by all. If only the general public was as smart as C.P. members.
