I really miss my sweet 1955 Chevrolet Del Ray Club Coupe (210). (1978-1980)

In the spring of 1978 i bought a 1955 Chevrolet Del Ray club coupe from a guy who became a good friend later on. I was twenty years old and still trying to find myself but i knew one thing, i loved old cars especially old Chevrolet cars. At the time i never knew how rare and special a Del Ray club coupe was, i thought it was a 210 because it looks like a 210. It was about two years later that i realized how rare a 55 Chevy i had. The Del Ray had an all vinyl two tone interior that was totally different from all the other models. My car was a Canadian built car and it had body work done to it, some bad and some good. The 55 had a 235 six with three speed stick on the tree. This 55 other than being a very rare model (Del Ray), had no options on it and i do mean none. I bought the car with the sixties GM rally wheels on it and even then i wanted to put the stock rims and hub caps on the car. I bought four small 55 Chevy hub caps and was looking for rims before i sold the car. Even then as a punk young man, i was an original vintage car kind of guy. This 55 was really my first venture into the old car world, even though i had a 56 Chev BelAir sedan just before this. My first 56 Chev i never got on the road. This 55 Chev was my first venture into the old car world, going to car shows and connecting with other like minded folks. My very first car show with this car was the Barrie Ontario  car show and swap meet in 1978. I remember taking my baby brother Mike who was ten years old at the time with me. What a major league time warp that is. Cheers.

I understand why you miss this car. The Del Ray was a very neat version if only for the interior. I wonder if you sometimes wish you had kept and restored it.

I know I wish I'd kept my 56 210 2 dr wagon that I bought in 1980. But the reality at the time was that I didn't have the knowledge or skill then to do what would be a joke to me now: repair the quarter panels and change the rusty chassis (even though I scrounged a good chassis from the woods).

At that time it all seemed too much for me and after I sold it, the car changed hands a few times before being parted out.

The Del Ray was a fancy all-vinyl interior option available only on the 210 2-door post from 1954-57. Yours was pretty and the choice of wheels were right for the car.

Here's a few pics of a '55 Del Ray that was on eBay in 2003. A 235 Powerglide little old lady car that was purchased in the 1990s. It received a repaint but otherwise was not touched. Interior was so nice that I don't think that back seat was sat in. It didn't make reserve which was $18,900 USD. The car was in Pittsburgh.

That is my baby, except for the colours. My interior was black and white and it was mint mint mint. This car is a real beauty and i would be proud to own it.

Love 55 Chevys. I had mine from 1977-93. It's the one car I wish I had kept. Bought it as a basket case, totally rebuilt it. It was a 150 model, real basic. I installed a 350, 4 speed Muncie with 3.55 posi rear. It was quite light and quick....loved that car.

Has anyone ever seen this 55 Chevy at any car shows and cruise nights since i sold it in 1980. The car was bought by someone from the Kingston, Ontario area. It was red and white when i sold it.
