Beaumont Tachometer


THIS WILL WORK FOR ALL YOU 1964-1967 BEAUMONT OWNERS

I decided to build a tach into the clock housing,  i always had a sun tach stuck in the clock hole from the outside,  it works good and doesnt look too bad,  but i wanted even better.  The factory tachs are too expensive for me, and the aftermarket ones may or may not work with some electronic ign/pertronix, and they are super pricey as well

I will let the pictures more or less tell the story.  i gutted a clock,  took apart a 90's era sun tach and built the whole thing in.  I spent hours on photoshop and created my own tachometer face that closer resembles the other guages.   The sun tach is still available online from many suppliers, and is cheap under 50 dollars,  ebay you can find used ones for even 10 bucks,  they are mostly the same,  Bosch makes it now too.  the front face and glass is removable.

I glued the new printed face over the original ugly 90's graphic.  I printed mine with a color Lazer printer, so it is waterproof,  great results.  i tried to match the blue color, and i had to paint one of the trim rings with the matching blue spray paint.  i screwed the plastic housing into the clock housing,  and centered it all up.  i drilled 4 screw in the sides of the housing, that way i could adjust it for centering.

The last thing is to cut out a small black circle from some vinyl sticker, and place it dead center on the lens to cover the guts of the needle area.

NOTE:  some of the sun tachs are 10,000 rpm, and some are 8,000. The 8,000 are more common. I happened to have both , so i did both versions on photoshop.

 

I did a similar one for my 64 CHEVELLE dash,  again gutting a clock and doing the same processes

ha,  ya.   I think all the tachs had a 5200 rpm redline tho?

No options for this one!!   i even had the original clock delete plate which is so cool,  but i couldnt resist adding a tach.  its the only option, other than the V8

Great job Dave. Just a question. I'm guessing the centre hole on your transplant is the same size as the existing sun tach. If it isn't possible to make smaller I wonder how an arrowhead or something like that would look on the black circle covering it. It would give it even more uniqueness. Thanks for sharing the process.

 Yes, I think anything but the solid lifter engines were at 5200 in those days.
