Mystery slide rule.

Going through the leftover tools from the Kennedy tool box redo, came across this German slide rule.

No idea what it calculates or how old it is. Uncle Charles was from the Gaspe', so he must have got it from a German tradesman at some point?

Can anyone of German heritage shine a light on what it is? It has scales on both sides. Kind of cool though.

I suspect this is for speeds and feeds chart of various milling and lathe applications.

They used to be handed out by companies as promotion...but were all very practical.

Long before computers and the internet....collector item value these days.

Cool piece ... wish I knew German.

I see you have a handy thread gauge, and some nice combination square/angle heads. Would the black one be Starrett brand?

I think so Darryl.

He had some good stuff. I got the leftovers, I'm sure all his big stuff went out before I got the box.

Okay I figured out what this is....it's a slide guide for figuring out woodruff keyways in different diameters.

Woodruff Keyseat Sizes Dimensions

From translation

"It is a vintage engineering ruler made of stainless steel, very well preserved.
It is produced in the first part of the last century in Germany at the company WILHELM LESCHHORN in Frankfurt.
And only if we look at this ruler so old, we correlate with the German technological advance of those times.
Basically, this is a symbol of German engineering!"

Thanks George! I went into Google Translate and did some of the words seen on the rule...and none of it made any sense.

I wonder what year it is? I see no date on it.

 Mark,

Here's a bit more about the company....a catalogue view of some of their equipment for sale.

Looks to be a lot of measuring equipment is what they made..(company name is still around, but not really in this kind of equipment anymore)

The company started in 1919.

Similar type of calculators that I have for figuring out conversions, tap drill sizes or allen head screw counterbore sizes were made of heavy paper and date back to the 50's

In the 60's and 70's most were made of plastic.

As for your German stainless steel keyway calculator (my educated guess) it is probably from the 30's or 40's.

Wow, that is very specialized. I wonder how many times your uncle used it? Great display piece!

I love my Starrett brand tools. They have a great feel.
