Why General Motors died a slow death in Canada..

Greetings Poncho Folk's :

Hope that all are well ! I was cruising through some old videos in a file folder recently during lock down, and I found this interesting little clip, which frankly I forgot that I even had saved.

Collectively, G.M. corporately enjoyed about $80 Billion dollars in their massive bailout for the U.S. and Canadian Plants.

Remember, this video was taken a couple of years ago, but sheds some new light on how the G.M. Oshawa Plant was killed a very long time ago by G.M. in Detroit, just follow the money trail.

Also, watch this video closely, and only 0:22 seconds into the clip it shows G.M. celebrating, get this, a massive brand new Factory just opened in...

......where?........Wuhan, China.......no less !!!

[video=www.youtube.com/embed/Lvl5Gan69Wo]          You may have to "cut & paste" this into your browser to watch !

No words can describe how all of this foreign investment, is such a royal slap in the face for Canada, and the U.S. as well !

All comments are welcomed here !

For some reason, when I copied and pasted that URL it didn't take me to whatever video you wanted us to see.

That said:

1) It's my understanding that the board management would like us to keep political comments/discussion to a minimum (which I believe is basically zero).

2) Just based on your comments, I don't think it's constructive to look at things so simply.  For example, all major automakers have opened factories in China, and for good reason as it is one of the world's largest car markets, and the communist Chinese government has specific rules surrounding importation vs manufactured in China.  I don't like it any more than anybody else, but it's not in any car company's best interests to deny themselves access to that profit centre.

Also, Buick is like a hallowed brand in China, so GM would be foolish to not try to use that to their advantage.

In regards to how all that fits with GM closing Oshawa, etc., I can't comment without having watched the video you posted, but it is starting to sound like yet another conspiracy theory at the moment.  Something that is unfortunately not in short supply these days.

That said, GM accepting money from the taxpayer is nothing new:

Yes, it has to remain politics-free!

The hard part to take of the taxpaper money going to any huge corporation is the government action afterwards.

Yup.  It happens all the time.  Oftentimes dying industries are propped up just to keep jobs available in depressed areas.  Nothing new, really, and perhaps not the wisest use of taxpayer money, but let's not talk about it so we can keep away from political discussion.
