My truck still has a key. Its a good thing as both my key fobs have failed. At about $500 to fix it I just use my key. I took the fobs apart an a micro switch failed in both of them. What would you do if all you have is a fob and no key and it fails?

I hate the fob deal. I'm stuck with a large blob of keys and a fob in my pocket when in my Explorer. I put it on the console, they slide off. I put it in the console, I forget. Put it in the cup holder and the second water bottle or coffee wont fit.

1st world issues for sure, but could they have not thought of a little pocket somewhere on the dash that the fob could slide into?

How about this one for a key. Its for our 13 Traverse. I slipped and fell on the ice in our driveway this winter. My keys were in my hand and landed on them. Of course the most expensive key bent over 45 degrees and broke trying to straighten it. I couldnt get one right away so for temporary I taped the chip end to a plain key. Works awesome and I dont drive it much (wifes car). So with $4 vs $75 I think Ill just leave it.

You have to like the older years for keys. I didnt receive any keys with the 2 64s I bought this week so today I took a half dozen old keys with me as I wanted to get into the trunks. Tried a couple and then tried the one from my 64. It opened one of the trunks and worked in both ignitions. Didnt have one that worked for the one trunk so pulled the back seat and with a bunch of extensions took the 3 bolts off the latch.

The purpose of the key has been totally lost. The more the car manufacturers mess with the keys,

the more complicated they become (not to mention the higher cost)....and are the cars more secure?

It becomes so complicated that only the manufacturer know how to fix it...of course at a high cost.

Thieves still are one step ahead of the manufacturers. With all this key nonsense, they still manage to steal cars and trucks.

If the "you choice your options on the car" were still available like in the 60's,I would option to have a regular

key like those days.
