CP (Canadian Poncho) in 1974?

Tonight I stumbled on my first ever set of license plates that I owned. Judging by the "CP" plate, it appears that way back in 1974 when I bought my first Canadian Pontiac (A 65 Canso SD) I already knew about Canadian Poncho.

I thought of you when I posted my picture.

Your car is a CP, Canadian Pontiac, a 64, and a 421. I have all your bases covered.

I have 2 of these plates. Do you want one to hang on the wall?

Do you choose those or are they randomly assigned?

Karma I guess. Pretty neat especially if Pete takes you up on your "random" offer.

Yup, me too. No hurry. I've had these for 46 years, they're not going anywhere!

Carl.
Just a thought.
Our buddy Mark is restoring his 71 Acadian.

Just my 2 cents but that 71 plate would look pretty cool on his little scoot too.

Any idea what the CP actually indicated?

In NS anytime there were letters like that on a plate it usually indicated a special use, like FM for farm, or T for trailer.

In this case it was just random. We did have certain letters for special things as well but these aren't any of that.

When I plated my '67 Chevelle I went to a license office in Scarborough that was recommended to me by a mechanic. He said they were friendly and helpful there. So when they went to give me the plates,  they noticed it was for a '67 and they sorted through until they found a set with the numerals 607 on it. Nice!
