Need help with Parts ID - is this for an car or is it for a vintage table top radio?

I found this in a box of old car parts - (the other parts in the box were from an early 50s Dodge)

It has no part number on it

The key slot is a bit of a mystery to me - the design indicates one can insert a key  but i don't know how one would rotate the key(?)

I am leaning toward it being from an old table top radio but most old radios of the mid 50s to my knowledge were made of bakelite

Anyway thanks for any help

Don't think it's for a key.

More likely to secure something (looks round) in that position.

Slot has a similar function as this retainer piece.

Says "Deluxe" on it as well as a clue,

Widely used automotive term in the 30's to 50's?

Master Deluxe? Plymouth Deluxe?

Reddit wants a better image of the "Deluxe" script.

I'm stumped.  Looked at a few car possibilities online, and couldn't find anything that matched.  Furthermore, I'm starting to think it's too flat and 2-dimensional to be a car dashboard from the thirties through the fifties.  Maybe it is from a radio or some other appliance?

The toggle switch on the left must be a clue. It looks too generic to be an OEM car switch, yet the pattern on the plate is relieved around it, so it looks like it was made to be there.  Also, the circular imprinting or wear around the 'keyhole' must be a clue as well, as to what was in that location before.

Hmmm....

Somebody on Reddit suggested an aftermarket underdash air bezel.

We need a better shot of the Delu?? script. I'm assuming its Deluxe?

The Reddit sub is for anything. It's amazing what gets solved there.

Maybe the front part of an electric air cooler (swamp cooler). I have seen a swamp cooler that mounts inside the car and uses a fan to push air rather than hanging in the car window.

My first car was a 1950 Dodge Deluxe. Script looks close to the same as the side script on the trim of  my 50 Dodge. Thinking more of a under dash heater face. Back then they could be an add on and don't think that's a key hole. More like the cover fits over a screw slides up and tighten to hold in place. They did have some obscure heaters back then! Still have the dash board and radio out of my 50 Dodge...they were a work of Art!!

I think the fact that it was in box of old car parts might be throwing you off ... I just have a feeling that it isn't an old OEM car part.

It could be car-related, but not OEM.

I submitted the photo to Google's AI and it came back as a "weapon" lol plus a lot of photos of stainless steel things.

Ha! I did the same thing, same result. (Seems the "recognition" isn't what it used to be.)

I also believe it's an accessory item, or not car related at all. I enjoy a good (car) mystery and like most of us, I currently have plenty of time. I can't find anything quite like it, but I remain interested in a positive ID...

I was hoping member Robert_M would see this. If you guys recall, he's big into vintage radios. He may have some insight as to whether or not it's a radio plate.

maybe that is a keyhole? If it were a hole for a screw and then it slid up and the screw was tightened, thats upside down?

I've been searching high and low, but still no hit. I cropped the image and straightened it up (as seen in a post above) and now the image search thinks it's a starters pistol!

Maybe a clue: on the back at the "keyhole" the metal looks like it had something in that position like a rheostat that might get warm. Kind of heated and browned looking there,
